Description
With the performance and coating characteristics of a traditional oil-based enamel, Pro Industrial™ Waterbased Alkyd Urethane Enamel brings together the convenience and ease of use of a waterborne coating. It provides beauty and durability when applied to interior/exterior surfaces such as properly prepared drywall, wood, masonry, and metal.
Material Use:
Pro Industrial Waterbased Alkyd Urethane Enamel is a high-performance, waterborne enamel designed for both interior and exterior applications. It combines the durability and performance of traditional oil-based enamels with the ease of application and cleanup of water-based systems. This product is ideal for commercial, institutional, and industrial environments where a tough, washable, and attractive finish is required.
System Components:
This coating system typically includes a primer appropriate to the substrate, followed by two coats of Pro Industrial Waterbased Alkyd Urethane Enamel. The system components vary depending on the substrate:
- Steel, Aluminum, Galvanized Metal: 1 coat of Pro Industrial Pro-Cryl Primer + 2 coats of Pro Industrial Waterbased Alkyd Urethane.
- Concrete Block (CMU): 1 coat of Pro Industrial Heavy Duty Block Filler or Loxon Acrylic Block Surfacer + 2 coats of Pro Industrial Waterbased Alkyd Urethane.
- Concrete/Masonry: 1 coat of Loxon Concrete & Masonry Primer or Loxon Conditioner + 2 coats of Pro Industrial Waterbased Alkyd Urethane.
- Drywall: 1 coat of ProMar 200 Zero VOC Primer + 2 coats of Pro Industrial Waterbased Alkyd Urethane.
- Exterior Wood: 1 coat of Exterior Wood Primer + 2 coats of Pro Industrial Waterbased Alkyd Urethane.
- Interior Wood: 1 coat of Premium Wall & Wood Primer + 2 coats of Pro Industrial Waterbased Alkyd Urethane.
Applications:
This product is suitable for use on properly prepared steel, galvanized and aluminum surfaces, drywall, concrete, masonry, and wood. It is ideal for commercial and institutional settings such as schools, hospitals, offices, and USDA-inspected facilities due to its excellent washability, touch-up capability, and resistance to yellowing.
Application Details:
- Application Methods: Brush, roller, or airless spray. Use a nylon-polyester brush (e.g., Purdy® Syntox®) or a 1/4"–1/2" woven roller cover (e.g., Purdy® White Dove™). For airless spray, use 2000 psi pressure, 0.013–0.017" tip, and 60 mesh filter.
- Film Thickness: 4.0–5.0 wet mils per coat, resulting in 1.3–1.6 dry mils.
- Coverage: 320–395 sq. ft. per gallon per coat. Theoretical coverage is 513 sq. ft. per gallon at 1 mil dry film thickness.
- Dry Time at 77°F and 50% RH: To touch: 1–2 hours; To recoat: 4 hours.
- Pot Life: Not applicable (single-component water-based product).
- Cure Time: Full cure time not explicitly stated, but allow at least one week before testing adhesion or subjecting to heavy use.
- Temperature & Humidity Limits: Apply when air, surface, and material temperatures are between 50°F (10°C) and 100°F (37.8°C), and at least 5°F above the dew point. Maximum relative humidity: 85%.
- UV Resistance: Not explicitly UV stable; exterior use is permitted, but long-term UV exposure may affect gloss and color retention.
- VOC Content: <50 g/L (0.42 lbs/gal), compliant with major environmental regulations including OTC, CARB, and SCAQMD.
- Shelf Life: 36 months unopened.
Special Notes:
- This product is not LEED v4/v4.1 emissions compliant but meets LEED VOC requirements.
- Excellent abrasion resistance (55 mg loss per ASTM D4060), strong adhesion (2704 psi per ASTM D4541), and good flexibility (passes 180° bend on 1/8" mandrel).
- Dry heat resistance up to 300°F.
- Mildew resistance rating of 8.67 (ASTM D3273-3274).
- Do not apply immediately after rain or during foggy weather. Avoid painting on wet surfaces.
- Clean tools and equipment with soap and warm water immediately after use. Flush spray equipment with compliant solvent to prevent rusting.
- Rags and waste soaked with this product may spontaneously combust; dispose of properly in a sealed, water-filled metal container.
This product is a versatile and durable finish coat that can be used in a variety of systems depending on the substrate. It is especially useful in environments requiring a low-VOC, washable, and durable coating with the appearance of traditional alkyd enamels.
