Description

SETFAST® Chlorinated Rubber Alkyd Zone Marking Paint is a fast drying, ready to use, chlorinated rubber product available in two colors, white and lead-free yellow.

Material Use:

Setfast® Chlorinated Rubber Zone Marking Paint is a fast-drying, solvent-based chlorinated rubber coating designed for high-visibility traffic and zone marking applications. It is ideal for use on cured asphalt, concrete, and brick surfaces, and is commonly applied in parking lots, runways, airfields, shopping centers, schools, universities, and municipal properties. This product is not intended for use as a general floor coating and should not be used to paint large pedestrian areas due to potential slipperiness when wet.

System Components:

This is a single-component, ready-to-use system that does not require a primer or topcoat. It can be used alone or in conjunction with glass beads for reflective markings. The paint is available in three colors: white (TM5126), yellow (TM5127), and red (TM5128). No additional base or final coats are required, and the product should not be tinted.

Applications:

Setfast® Chlorinated Rubber Zone Marking Paint is recommended for marking lines and zones on cured asphalt, concrete, and brick surfaces. It is suitable for use in environments such as parking lots, airfields, and other paved areas requiring durable, high-visibility striping. It can be applied using airless or conventional spray line stripers, or by brush and roller for small areas. The product can also be used with stencils and as a binder for glass beads to create reflective markings.

Application Details:

- Surface Preparation: All surfaces must be clean, dry, and sound. Remove oil, dust, grease, dirt, and loose materials. New asphalt should be aged for several months before application. If painting on new asphalt is necessary, apply a test stripe and limit application to 8 mils wet to avoid lifting.

- Application Method: Airless spray (1500–2000 psi, 0.015–0.019" tip), conventional spray, or brush/roller for small areas.

- Mixing: Mix thoroughly to a uniform consistency before use.

- Reducer: Acetone or R6K9, up to 12.5% by volume (not in VOC-restricted areas).

- Film Thickness: 15.0 mils wet, 8.2 mils dry (White and Yellow).

- Coverage: Approximately 320 linear feet of 4-inch stripe per gallon or 107 sq. ft. per gallon at 15 mils wet. Theoretical coverage is 882 sq. ft. per gallon (White and Yellow).

- Dry Time (at 77°F / 25°C, 50% RH):

- Dry-no-pickup: 15 minutes (White & Yellow), 20 minutes (Red)

- Dry to touch: 15 minutes

- Pot Life: Not applicable (single-component, ready-to-use).

- Cure Time: Full cure not explicitly stated; however, fast-drying properties allow for quick re-opening of traffic areas.

- Temperature & Humidity Limits:

- Application temperature: 50°F (10°C) to 110°F (43°C)

- Relative humidity: Maximum 85%

- Surface must be at least 5°F above dew point

- UV Resistance: Not specified; however, as a zone marking paint, it is expected to have moderate UV resistance suitable for outdoor use.

- Shelf Life: 12 months unopened, stored indoors between 50°F and 110°F.

- VOC Content:

- White: 307 g/L (2.56 lb/gal)

- Yellow: 288 g/L (2.40 lb/gal)

- Red: 320 g/L (2.67 lb/gal)

- Not compliant with OTC, CARB, or LEED VOC limits.

- Flash Point: 20°–24°F (PMCC) – flammable material.

Special Notes:

- Do not apply on wet surfaces or during foggy weather.

- Avoid painting immediately after rain or when the surface is below dew point.

- Excessive film thickness can cause lifting on asphalt surfaces.

- Not suitable for use on uncured asphalt or as a general floor coating.

- Clean tools and equipment immediately after use with acetone or a compliant solvent.

- For reflective markings, glass beads should be dropped onto the wet paint.

- Painted surfaces may become slippery when wet; avoid use in pedestrian-heavy areas.

- Always test adhesion on previously painted surfaces before full application.

- This product is for professional use only and should be handled with appropriate safety precautions, including proper ventilation and protective equipment.

This product is best used as a standalone system for traffic and zone marking on cured horizontal surfaces and does not require additional primers or topcoats.
