Description

A superior-quality one-package coating, Silver-Brite® Aluminum Paint is formulated with 325-mesh leafing aluminum pigment, petroleum resin and select oils to produce a chrome-like, uniform appearance.

Material Use:

Silver-Brite® Aluminum Paint is a high-quality, one-component, general-purpose aluminum enamel designed for both interior and exterior applications. It is formulated with 325-mesh leafing aluminum pigment, petroleum resin, and select oils to provide a chrome-like, uniform metallic finish. This product is ideal for use on properly prepared steel, concrete, masonry, primed galvanized metal, and aluminum surfaces. It offers excellent resistance to weathering, moisture, and dry heat up to 400°F (204°C), making it suitable for industrial and commercial environments.

System Components:

Silver-Brite® Aluminum Paint is typically used as a topcoat in a multi-layer system. Depending on the substrate, it is applied over a compatible primer or block filler. The system may include:

- Primers: Kem Bond HS, Kem Kromik Universal Metal Primer, DTM Wash Primer, Galvite HS, ProMar 200 Zero VOC Latex Primer, Loxon Concrete and Masonry Primer

- Block Filler (for concrete block): Pro Industrial Heavy Duty Block Filler

- Topcoat: 2 coats of Silver-Brite® Aluminum Paint

Applications:

This product is recommended for a wide range of applications including:

- Structural steel and piping

- Bridges and fences

- Refineries and industrial facilities

- Siding and storage tanks (exterior)

- Insulated pipe and ductwork (interior up to 130°F/54°C)

- Concrete and masonry surfaces

Application Details:

- Application Methods: Brush, roller, or spray (airless or conventional)

- Recommended Wet Film Thickness (WFT): 2.5–3.5 mils

- Recommended Dry Film Thickness (DFT): 1.0–1.5 mils per coat (do not exceed 1.5 mils DFT per coat)

- Coverage: 448–673 sq. ft. per gallon at recommended thickness (theoretical coverage at 1 mil DFT is 673 sq. ft./gal)

- Pot Life: Not applicable (single-component product)

- Drying Time at 77°F (25°C), 50% RH, 3.0 mils WFT:

- To touch: 2–4 hours

- Tack free: 6–12 hours

- Recoat: 24 hours

- Full cure: 8 days

- Temperature Range for Application: Minimum 40°F (4.4°C), maximum 120°F (49°C); surface must be at least 5°F above dew point

- Relative Humidity Limit: Maximum 85%

- UV Resistance: Not specified as UV stable; intended for metallic finish and may discolor over time with prolonged UV exposure

- VOC Content: 451 g/L (3.76 lbs/gal)

- Finish: Aluminum sheen

Special Notes:

- Do not tint this product.

- Do not apply more than 1.5 mils DFT per coat to avoid blistering and peeling.

- For best results, apply to cool surfaces between 60°F–90°F (16°C–32°C).

- Stir gently before use; do not shake or over-agitate to avoid a mottled appearance.

- Stripe coat welds, crevices, and sharp angles to prevent early failure.

- For spray application, use a 50% overlap and consider cross-spraying to ensure uniform coverage.

- Surface preparation is critical for performance. Follow SSPC and ICRI standards for cleaning and profiling.

- For galvanized metal, allow to weather for 6 months or perform brush blasting if chromates/silicates are present.

- Clean tools and equipment with compliant solvent immediately after use.

- Rags and waste soaked with this product may spontaneously combust; dispose of properly in a sealed, water-filled metal container.

Compatible Systems by Substrate:

- Steel (200°F–400°F): 2 coats Silver-Brite® Aluminum Paint (no primer)

- Steel (below 200°F): 1 coat Kem Bond HS or Kem Kromik Universal Metal Primer + 2 coats Silver-Brite®

- Aluminum (below 200°F): 1 coat DTM Wash Primer + 2 coats Silver-Brite®

- Concrete Block (below 200°F): 1 coat Pro Industrial Heavy Duty Block Filler + 2 coats Silver-Brite®

- Galvanized Metal (below 200°F): 1 coat Galvite HS + 2 coats Silver-Brite®

- Insulated Pipe/Ductwork (interior, below 130°F): 1 coat ProMar 200 Zero VOC Latex Primer + 2 coats Silver-Brite®

- Masonry (below 200°F): 1 coat Loxon Concrete and Masonry Primer + 2 coats Silver-Brite®
