ALSAN CIVIL SN 471 is a high-performance, transparent, silane-based penetrating sealer designed for waterproofing and protecting alkaline mineral surfaces such as concrete. It is primarily used to enhance the durability of concrete structures by providing water repellency while maintaining high water vapor permeability. This product is particularly effective in protecting against freeze-thaw cycles and de-icing salts, making it ideal for civil engineering applications.

ALSAN CIVIL SN 471 is a single-component system and does not require a primer or topcoat. It is used as a stand-alone penetrating sealer. However, it must be applied to clean, dry, and fully cured concrete surfaces. No additional base or final coats are required, and it is not designed to be used in conjunction with other coating systems.

This product is recommended for use on reinforced concrete structures such as bridges, roads, parking decks, and maritime works. It is suitable for both horizontal and vertical surfaces and is approved by the Québec Ministry of Transportation (MTQ 3601 Standard) and the Alberta Ministry of Transportation as a Type 1b and Type 1c penetrating sealer.

- Surface Preparation: Concrete must be cured for at least 28 days and have a moisture content below 8%. All repairs, caulking, and coatings must be fully cured before application. Surfaces must be free of dust, dirt, oil, grease, laitance, curing compounds, and other contaminants. Acceptable cleaning methods include shotblasting, sandblasting, waterblasting, or chemical cleaning.

- Application Method: Apply using low-pressure (15–25 psi) spray equipment with a wet fan nozzle, a power roller with a 1” nap, or a brush. A flood coat is required, ensuring the material ponds for at least 5 seconds on horizontal surfaces or runs down 6–8 inches on vertical surfaces. Excess material must be removed or redistributed within 10–15 minutes to prevent surface film formation.

- Reapplication: After drying, test the surface with water. If water is absorbed, reapply ALSAN CIVIL SN 471 to ensure full coverage.

- Environmental Conditions: Application temperature range is from -7°C to 40°C (19°F to 104°F). Do not apply to wet or damp surfaces or if rain is expected within 2 hours of application. Avoid application if the surface has been exposed to precipitation within the previous 24 hours.

- Drying Time: 1–2 hours under normal conditions. Traffic should be kept off horizontal surfaces until at least one hour after the surface has completely dried.

- Coverage: Approximately 277 ft² per US gallon (6.8 m²/L). A 5-gallon pail covers about 1,391 ft², and a 54-gallon drum covers approximately 15,058 ft².

- Penetration Depth: 10–16 mm (3/8" to 5/8") for concrete with a 0.50 w/c ratio; 10–13 mm (3/8" to 1/2") for concrete with a 0.42 w/c ratio.

- Storage: Store in original, unopened containers at temperatures between -18°C (0°F) and 50°C (120°F). Shelf life is 12 months. Keep away from heat, sparks, and open flames.

- VOC Content: 390 g/L. The product is combustible and should be handled with care.

- UV Stability: Not specified; however, as a penetrating sealer, it is not intended to form a surface film and is generally not affected by UV exposure.

- Limitations: Not suitable for below-grade waterproofing. Do not dilute or alter the product.
