ALSAN CIVIL SN 474 is a water-diluted, solvent-free and highly penetrating silane based sealer.

UNITS PER SKID:

Depends on size:

4.99 gal - 36

54.02 gal - 4

Material Use:

ALSAN CIVIL SN 474 is a high-performance, water-diluted, solvent-free silane-based penetrating sealer designed for waterproofing and protecting alkaline mineral surfaces such as concrete. It is primarily used to enhance the durability of concrete structures by reducing water absorption while maintaining high water vapor permeability. This product is particularly effective in protecting against freeze-thaw cycles and de-icing salts, making it ideal for civil engineering applications.

System Components:

ALSAN CIVIL SN 474 is a single-component system and does not require a primer or topcoat. It is used as a standalone penetrating sealer. However, it must be applied to properly prepared and fully cured concrete surfaces. No additional base or final coats are required or recommended for this product.

Applications:

This product is recommended for use on reinforced concrete structures such as bridges, roads, and parking decks. It is approved by the Québec Ministry of Transportation under MTQ 3601 Standard and by the Alberta Ministry of Transportation as a Type 1b penetrating sealer. ALSAN CIVIL SN 474 is suitable for both horizontal and vertical surfaces exposed to environmental stressors.

Application Details:

- Surface Preparation: Concrete must be cured for a minimum of 28 days and have a moisture content below 8%. All repairs, caulking, and coatings must be fully cured before application. Surfaces must be clean and free of contaminants such as dirt, oil, grease, paint, and curing compounds. Acceptable cleaning methods include shotblasting, sandblasting, waterblasting, or chemical cleaning.

- Application Method: Apply using low-pressure spray (15–25 psi), power roller (1” nap), or brush. A flood coat is required, ensuring the material ponds for at least 5 seconds on horizontal surfaces or runs 4–6 inches below the spray pattern on vertical surfaces. A fog coat may be used to break surface tension before the flood coat. Excess material must be redistributed or removed within 10–15 minutes to prevent film formation.

- Reapplication: After drying, test the surface with water. If water is absorbed, reapply ALSAN CIVIL SN 474 to those areas.

Special Notes:

- Environmental Conditions: Application temperature must be between 5 °C and 40 °C (41 °F to 104 °F). Do not apply if rain is expected within 4 hours or if the substrate has been exposed to precipitation within the previous 24 hours. Avoid application if temperatures are expected to fall below 5 °C (41 °F) within 12 hours.

- Drying Time: 4–6 hours under normal conditions. Traffic should be kept off horizontal surfaces until at least one hour after the surface has completely dried.

- Coverage: Approximately 118 ft² per US gallon (2.9 m²/L). A 5-gallon pail covers about 584 ft², and a 54-gallon drum covers approximately 6,323 ft². Coverage may vary depending on surface porosity and texture.

- Penetration Depth: Less than 2.5 mm (0.1 in).

- UV Stability: Not specified; however, as a penetrating sealer, it is not intended to form a surface film and is generally not affected by UV exposure.

- Limitations: Not intended for below-grade waterproofing. Do not apply to wet or damp surfaces. Product must be stored between 2 °C and 40 °C (36 °F to 104 °F) and used within 12 months of manufacture.

ALSAN CIVIL SN 474 is a reliable and effective solution for extending the life of concrete infrastructure by providing deep, breathable water repellency without altering the appearance or vapor permeability of the substrate.
