Material Use:
ALSAN FLOOR EP 951 is a high-performance, two-component, 100% solids clear epoxy finish coating designed for use as a topcoat in decorative epoxy flooring systems. It is specifically formulated to provide a smooth, glossy, and durable finish over colored epoxy base coats, particularly in interior applications such as parking decks and commercial or industrial floors. This product is ideal for enhancing the appearance and durability of floors incorporating decorative elements like vinyl flakes or quartz aggregates.
System Components:
ALSAN FLOOR EP 951 is used as the final topcoat in a multi-layer epoxy flooring system. It is applied over ALSAN FLOOR EP 440, a colored epoxy resin that serves as the base coat. Together, these materials form a complete decorative and protective flooring system. ALSAN FLOOR EP 951 does not require a separate primer when applied over the cured ALSAN FLOOR EP 440, provided the surface is clean and properly prepared.
Applications:
This product is suitable for interior applications where a high-gloss, abrasion-resistant, and chemically durable finish is required. Typical uses include parking decks, commercial interiors, industrial floors, and other high-traffic areas where aesthetics and performance are both critical. It is not recommended for exterior use due to its lack of UV stability.
Application Details:
ALSAN FLOOR EP 951 must be applied to a clean, dry, and contaminant-free surface. The two components (Part A and Part B) must be mixed thoroughly (2:1 volume ratio) for 2–3 minutes each before combining, and then mixed together for an additional 2–3 minutes until a homogeneous mixture is achieved. The mixed product must be poured immediately onto the substrate to avoid excessive heat buildup from the exothermic reaction. Application is done using a roller or flat squeegee to achieve a wet film thickness of 305 µm (12 mils). One 18.9 L (5 US gal) kit covers approximately 62 m² (667 ft²) at this thickness.
Special Notes:
- Pot Life: Varies with temperature. At 20 °C (68 °F), pot life is approximately 4.5 hours; at 22 °C (72 °F), 2 hours; and at 30 °C (86 °F), only 1.1 hours. Higher temperatures significantly reduce pot life.
- Curing Time: Full cure is achieved in 24 hours at 20 °C (68 °F) and 12 hours at 30 °C (86 °F), assuming 50% relative humidity.
- Temperature Limits: Application and curing must occur at ambient and substrate temperatures above 10 °C (50 °F). Storage must be between 10 °C (50 °F) and 35 °C (95 °F).
- UV Resistance: ALSAN FLOOR EP 951 is not UV stable and is intended for interior use only.
- Thickness Limits: Recommended application thickness is 305 µm (12 mils) wet film. Do not exceed or reduce this thickness without consulting the manufacturer.
- Coverage Rate: Approximately 667 ft² per 5-gallon kit at 12 mils wet film thickness.
- Cleaning: Tools and equipment should be cleaned immediately after use with ALSAN RS CLEANER or solvents such as MEK, xylene, or mineral spirits.
- Storage and Handling: Shelf life is 18 months in original, unopened containers stored in a cool, dry place. The product is corrosive and should be handled with appropriate PPE. Avoid inhalation and skin contact.
This material is best used as part of the ALSAN FLOOR system, specifically in conjunction with ALSAN FLOOR EP 440, to create a complete, decorative, and durable epoxy flooring solution for interior environments.
