Description

ALSAN FOAM EPS/XPS adhesive will save you time and money when installing polystyrene and polyurethane insulation boards.

UNITS PER SKID: 720

Material Use:

ALSAN FOAM EPS/XPS is a one-component, moisture-curing polyurethane (PU) adhesive foam specifically designed for bonding thermal insulation boards such as expanded polystyrene (EPS), extruded polystyrene (XPS), and polyurethane (PU) boards. It is suitable for both indoor and outdoor applications and provides excellent adhesion to a wide range of construction materials including cement-based substrates, brick, wood, aluminum, galvanized steel, and painted iron surfaces.

System Components:

ALSAN FOAM EPS/XPS is typically used as part of an insulation attachment system. It is compatible with EPS, XPS, and PU insulation boards and may be used in conjunction with mechanical fasteners or other SOPREMA waterproofing and insulation systems. For cleaning and maintenance of the application gun, ALSAN FOAM CL-F cleaner is recommended.

Applications:

This adhesive foam is ideal for securing insulation boards in roofing, wall cladding, and foundation insulation systems. It is particularly useful in applications where mechanical fastening is not preferred or feasible, such as in retrofit insulation or when working with delicate substrates.

Application Details:

- Surface Preparation: Surfaces must be clean, dry, and free of dust, grease, and loose particles. Cement laitance should be removed. Porous surfaces should be lightly moistened with water before application.

- Application Temperature: The ambient air temperature during application should be between 0°C and +30°C (32°F to 86°F). The optimal can temperature is around +20°C (68°F). If the can is colder, it should be warmed in water at 35–40°C (95–104°F) for 40 minutes.

- Application Method: Shake the can thoroughly before use and regularly during application. Attach the can to a foam gun and apply the foam in 2–3 cm (¾–1 1/8 in) wide strips, approximately 3 cm (1 1/8 in) from the edge of the insulation board. Use an “S” pattern with continuous beads spaced every 45 cm (16 in).

- Coverage: One can covers up to 14 m² (150 ft²), depending on surface roughness and application technique.

- Yield: 65–70 liters of foam per can.

- Skinning Time: Approximately 6 minutes at 23°C and 50% relative humidity.

- Curing Time: Full cure is achieved in 24 hours under standard conditions (23°C / 50% RH).

- Service Temperature Range: Once cured, the foam can withstand temperatures from -40°C to +100°C (-40°F to 212°F).

- Restrictions: Not suitable for use on polyethylene (PE), silicone, or polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) substrates.

Special Notes:

- ALSAN FOAM EPS/XPS is not UV stable and should be protected from prolonged exposure to sunlight after installation.

- The foam is classified as Class 1 under CAN/ULC-S710.1 for fire performance.

- The product has a shelf life of 15 months when stored in its original, unopened packaging in a dry environment at temperatures between +5°C and +25°C.

- For longer work interruptions, the foam gun should be cleaned with ALSAN FOAM CL-F to prevent clogging.

- The foam has a density of 21 kg/m³, tensile strength of 7.6 N/cm², and compressive strength of 0.03 MPa, making it suitable for light to moderate load-bearing insulation applications.

This product is an effective and easy-to-apply solution for bonding insulation boards in a variety of construction and waterproofing systems, particularly where fast installation and strong adhesion are required.
