Material Use:
ALSAN RS COLOR ADDITIVE is a pigment additive designed to be mixed with specific polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA)-based clear liquid resins to provide a durable, UV-resistant colored finish. It is used in waterproofing and surfacing systems for roofs, balconies, and other exposed surfaces where aesthetic and functional color finishes are required.
System Components:
ALSAN RS COLOR ADDITIVE is not a standalone product but is used in conjunction with the following PMMA-based resins:
- ALSAN RS 287 COLOR FINISH BASE – a clear resin base for colored finishes.
- ALSAN RS 289 TEXTURED BASE – a clear resin base with a textured finish.
- ALSAN CIVIL 370 – a PMMA resin used in civil engineering applications.
To activate the resin system, ALSAN RS CATALYST POWDER must be added to the resin after the color additive is mixed in. This initiates the curing process.

This additive is used in PMMA-based waterproofing and surfacing systems for:

- Exposed concrete surfaces
It is ideal for applications where a colored, UV-resistant, and weather-durable finish is required.
Application Details:
- Mixing Instructions: Mix the entire contents of ALSAN RS COLOR ADDITIVE into the selected resin (ALSAN RS 287, RS 289, or CIVIL 370) using a low-speed mechanical stirrer (200–400 rpm) for 2–3 minutes. After thorough mixing, add the appropriate amount of ALSAN RS CATALYST POWDER and stir again for 2–3 minutes.
- Pot Life: Once the catalyst is added, the pot life is approximately 10–15 minutes, depending on ambient temperature and catalyst dosage.
- Application Method: Apply the mixed resin to a clean, dry, and prepared substrate using a roller, brush, or notched squeegee. Ensure even distribution of the resin.
- Curing Time: Initial cure begins shortly after application, with full cure typically achieved within 45–60 minutes, depending on temperature and catalyst dosage.
- Environmental Conditions: Application should not be performed at temperatures below 0°C (32°F) or above 25°C (77°F). Avoid application in direct sunlight or high humidity conditions.
- UV Resistance: The final cured system is UV-resistant, making it suitable for exterior applications.
- Thickness & Coverage: The additive itself does not affect the thickness or coverage of the resin. Refer to the base resin’s TDS for specific thickness (in wet mils) and coverage rates (Gal/ft²).
Special Notes:
- ALSAN RS COLOR ADDITIVE is available in a wide range of RAL colors, including Signal White (RAL 9003), Traffic Yellow (RAL 1023), and Traffic Red (RAL 3020), among others. Each color has a specific Solar Reflectance (SR), Thermal Emittance (TE), and Solar Reflectance Index (SRI) value, which may be important for cool roof applications.
- The additive must be stored in a cool, dry, and ventilated area, away from direct sunlight and oxidizing agents. Shelf life is approximately 12 months when stored properly.
- Color results may vary slightly depending on catalyst dosage, application temperature, and mixing time. A test patch is recommended to confirm color accuracy before full application.
This product is an essential component in the ALSAN RS PMMA system, providing both aesthetic and functional benefits when used with compatible base resins and catalyst.
