Material Use:
ALSAN RS PASTE is a two-component, heavy-bodied paste based on polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA). It is specifically designed for use as a repair and leveling compound within the ALSAN RS waterproofing and surfacing systems. This product is used to fill small cracks, voids, and surface depressions on non-traffic bearing horizontal and vertical substrates. It is also suitable for smoothing out laps on ALSAN RS 230 and ALSAN RS 260 membranes prior to the application of aesthetic topcoats or surfacing layers.
System Components:
ALSAN RS PASTE is used in conjunction with the ALSAN RS system, which includes primers, membranes (such as ALSAN RS 230 and ALSAN RS 260), and topcoats. It must be catalyzed with ALSAN RS CATALYST POWDER before application. The paste is not a standalone product and is considered an accessory or preparatory component within the broader ALSAN RS system.
Applications:
ALSAN RS PASTE is suitable for use in waterproofing and surfacing systems on balconies, plaza decks, fountains, ponds, and roofs. It is intended for non-traffic bearing areas and should not be used for substrate repairs in traffic-bearing ALSAN RS systems.
Application Details:
Before application, the substrate must be clean, dry, and free of loose particles. The entire container of resin should be mixed thoroughly with a slow-speed mechanical agitator (200–400 rpm) for two minutes to ensure uniformity. The appropriate amount of ALSAN RS CATALYST POWDER must be added based on ambient temperature, as per the Catalyst Mixing Chart. After catalyzation, the paste is applied using a spatula or trowel and spread evenly over the surface. The product has a pot life of 15–20 minutes at 20°C (68°F), becomes rainproof after 30 minutes, can be walked on or recoated after 60 minutes, and reaches full cure in approximately 3 hours. These times may vary depending on actual field conditions.
Special Notes:
- ALSAN RS PASTE is not UV stable and is typically overcoated with a UV-resistant topcoat as part of the ALSAN RS system.
- It should not be used for repairs in traffic-bearing applications.
- The product must be stored in a cool, dry, and ventilated area, away from direct sunlight and temperatures below 0°C (32°F) or above 25°C (77°F). Shelf life is approximately 12 months when stored properly.
- The product is supplied in 15 kg resealable containers.
- Application temperature range is between 0°C and 35°C (32°F to 95°F), with catalyst dosage adjusted accordingly:
- 0°C to 10°C: 6% catalyst
- 10°C to 20°C: 4% catalyst
- 20°C to 35°C: 2% catalyst
- ALSAN RS PASTE has a high viscosity (>5,000 cps) and a Shore A hardness of 64, indicating a firm but flexible cured surface.
- Coverage rates are not specified in ft²/gal due to the paste-like nature of the product, which is applied as needed to fill voids and level surfaces.
