Material Use:
DUOTACK is a low-rise, two-component polyurethane adhesive specifically designed for roofing applications. It is primarily used to bond insulation boards and cover boards to various substrates in commercial and industrial roofing systems. DUOTACK is suitable for adhering polystyrene, polyisocyanurate, and approved mineral fibre (stone wool) insulation boards, as well as cover boards such as asphaltic, wood fibre, perlite, gypsum, and cement boards. It can also be used to attach these boards to wood, concrete, sanded bituminous vapor barriers, and SOPRAVAP’R membranes. Additionally, DUOTACK is compatible with Coal Tar Pitch and can be used to adhere thermal barriers to steel decks.
System Components:
DUOTACK is a two-part adhesive system consisting of Part A (amber) and Part B (light grey), which are mixed in a 1:1 volume ratio. It is available in multiple packaging formats including cartridges, cubitainers, barrels, and drums. The system requires a battery-operated applicator for cartridges or a low-pressure pump cart for bulk formats to ensure proper mixing and application.
Applications:
DUOTACK is used in roofing systems for the secure attachment of insulation and cover boards. It is suitable for use on a variety of substrates including wood, concrete, and bituminous membranes. It is also used in systems requiring thermal barriers on steel decks. The adhesive is ideal for both field and perimeter applications, with specific application rates determined by wind uplift resistance requirements per CSA A123.21-14 and FM 4470 standards.
Application Details:
- Surface Preparation: All surfaces must be dry, clean, and free of oil, grease, debris, or dirt.
- Application Method:
- Cartridges: Apply in continuous strips 13 to 19 mm (½ to ¾ in) wide using a battery-operated applicator.
- Bulk (Cubitainers, Barrels, Drums): Dispense using an approved low-pressure pump cart that mixes Part A and B in a 1:1 ratio.
- Temperature Requirements:
- Cartridges: Must be maintained at a minimum of 20 °C (68 °F) for at least 12 hours before application.
- Bulk Formats: Must be maintained at a minimum of 20 °C (68 °F) for at least 24 hours before application.
- Storage: Bulk formats must never be stored below 0 °C (32 °F).
- Curing Time:
- Cream Time: 15 seconds
- Rise Time: Approximately 2 minutes
- Initial Cure Time: 15 minutes at 25 °C (77 °F) and 50% relative humidity
- Note: Curing time will vary with temperature and humidity.
- Coverage Rates:
- Cartridges (4-pack): 400 to 600 ft² per box
- Cubitainer Kit: 2,500 to 3,800 ft²
- Barrel Kit: 7,500 to 11,400 ft²
- Drum Kit: 25,000 to 38,000 ft²
Special Notes:
- DUOTACK must be applied immediately after dispensing to ensure proper adhesion.
- Avoid uneven surfaces during installation to maintain consistent bonding.
- The product is not UV stable and should be protected from prolonged exposure to sunlight.
- Tools and uncured adhesive can be cleaned using mineral spirits, Varsol, or Xylene.
- DUOTACK has a shelf life of 12 months when stored in original sealed containers in a ventilated area, away from heat and direct sunlight.
- For optimal performance and compliance with wind uplift standards, consult the appropriate CSA and FM guidelines, including Factory Mutual’s PLPDS 1-29 for corner and perimeter recommendations.
DUOTACK is a reliable and high-performance adhesive solution for roofing systems, offering fast cure times and strong adhesion across a wide range of substrates and insulation materials.
