Description
Flashing membrane composed of a non-woven polyester reinforcement coated with oxidized bitumen.
UNITS PER SKID: 25
Material Use:
ELASTOBASE is a base sheet membrane used in roofing systems for waterproofing applications. It is designed to be installed as part of a multi-layer bituminous roofing system, typically serving as the base ply in hot-applied roofing assemblies.
System Components:
ELASTOBASE is used in conjunction with other SOPREMA bituminous roofing membranes, such as cap sheets or finishing membranes, to form a complete waterproofing system. It is not UV stable and must be covered with a compatible cap sheet or protective layer. The membrane is installed using hot bitumen, which acts as the bonding agent between layers. No primer is specified for ELASTOBASE itself, but primers may be required depending on the substrate and the cap sheet used in the system.
Applications:
ELASTOBASE is intended for use in roofing applications where a durable, reinforced base sheet is required. It is suitable for both new construction and roof replacement projects. The membrane is ideal for use in multi-ply bituminous roofing systems, particularly in commercial and industrial buildings.
Application Details:
ELASTOBASE is applied using hot bitumen, which ensures strong adhesion to the substrate and between membrane layers. The membrane is sanded on both sides to facilitate bonding. It is reinforced with non-woven polyester, providing excellent mechanical strength and elongation properties. The membrane must be installed in accordance with SOPREMA’s guidelines, ensuring proper overlap and bonding. The product is not UV resistant and must be covered with a UV-stable cap sheet or protective layer.
Special Notes:
- Thickness: 1.7 mm (67 mils)
- Reinforcement: Non-woven polyester
- Dimensions: 20 m x 1 m (65.6 ft x 3.3 ft)
- Weight per roll: 31 kg (68.3 lb)
- Surface: Sanded on both sides
- Breaking Strength (MD/XD): 17 / 12.5 kN/m
- Ultimate Elongation (MD/XD): 60 / 65%
- Cold Bending Resistance: ≤ -5 °C (23 °F)
- Softening Point: ≥ 85 °C (185 °F)
- Storage: Rolls must be stored upright with the selvedge side on top. If stored outdoors, they must be protected with an opaque cover.
- UV Resistance: Not UV stable – must be covered with a cap sheet or protective layer.
- Installation Temperature Range: Not explicitly stated, but hot bitumen application typically requires ambient temperatures above 5 °C (41 °F) and dry conditions.
- Curing Time / Pot Life: Not applicable – this is a pre-manufactured membrane applied with hot bitumen.
ELASTOBASE is a robust and reliable base sheet membrane that forms the foundation of a high-performance bituminous roofing system. It must be used in combination with compatible SOPREMA cap sheets to ensure long-term waterproofing performance.
