Material Use:
ELASTOPHENE 1500 is a self-adhesive SBS-modified bitumen membrane designed for use as a waterproofing underlayment in roofing systems. It is particularly suited for low-slope roofing applications and serves as a base sheet in multi-layer systems or as a standalone waterproofing layer in protected membrane assemblies.
System Components:
ELASTOPHENE 1500 is used in conjunction with ELASTOCOL STICK primers, which are required to prepare the substrate and ensure optimal adhesion. The membrane itself features a tri-laminated woven polyethylene surface and a self-adhesive underface protected by a silicone release film. It does not require additional reinforcement and is applied directly to the primed substrate.
Applications:
This membrane is ideal for waterproofing applications on roofs, particularly in systems where a self-adhesive base sheet is required. It can be used in both new construction and renovation projects. ELASTOPHENE 1500 is suitable for use in protected membrane roof assemblies, under pavers, or other overburden systems.
Application Details:
- Surface Preparation: Substrates must be clean, dry, and free of dust or loose particles. Application requires the use of ELASTOCOL STICK primer to ensure proper adhesion.
- Installation Method: The membrane is installed by removing the silicone release film and pressing the membrane onto the primed surface. A membrane roller must be used to apply uniform pressure and ensure full adhesion.
- Application Temperature: Minimum installation temperature is 0 °C (32 °F).
- Thickness: 1.5 mm (59 mils).
- Dimensions: Each roll measures 20 m x 1 m (66 ft x 3.3 ft).
- Weight: 1.5 kg/m² (0.3 lb/ft²).
- Selvedge Width: 100 mm (4 in) for overlapping seams.
Special Notes:
- UV Resistance: ELASTOPHENE 1500 is not UV stable and must be protected from direct sunlight, typically by overburden or additional membrane layers.
- Storage: Rolls must be stored upright with the selvedge side on top. If stored outdoors, they must be covered with an opaque protective cover.
- Performance Characteristics: The membrane exhibits excellent mechanical properties, including high tear resistance (400 N), static puncture resistance (375 N), and flexibility at low temperatures (no cracking at -30 °C / -22 °F). It also has a high plastic flow temperature of 90 °C, ensuring stability under heat exposure.
- Compatibility: Must be used with ELASTOCOL STICK primer for proper adhesion. It can be used as part of a multi-layer SBS-modified bitumen roofing system.
