Description
Adhered base sheet membrane composed of SBS modified bitumen and a non-woven polyester reinforcement.
UNITS PER SKID: 30
Material Use:
ELASTOPHENE 180 PS is a high-performance SBS-modified bitumen base sheet membrane designed for use in multi-layer roofing and waterproofing systems. It is primarily used as a base ply in built-up roofing systems for commercial and industrial flat or low-slope roofs. The membrane provides excellent waterproofing protection and mechanical strength, making it suitable for new construction and roof replacement projects.
System Components:
ELASTOPHENE 180 PS is typically used as the base sheet in a multi-layer SBS-modified bitumen roofing system. It is installed in conjunction with a compatible cap sheet membrane, such as SOPRALENE or ELASTOPHENE cap sheets, which are also SBS-modified and may feature granulated or film surfaces. The system may also include a primer (such as SOPREMA ELASTOCOL 500 or ELASTOCOL STICK) when applied over concrete or metal substrates to enhance adhesion. Hot bitumen (SEBS or oxidized) is used as the bonding agent during installation.
Applications:
This membrane is suitable for use in commercial and industrial roofing applications, particularly in multi-ply SBS-modified bitumen systems. It is ideal for flat or low-slope roofs and can be used in both new construction and re-roofing projects. ELASTOPHENE 180 PS is compatible with hot-applied installation methods and is designed to be used as a base ply beneath a cap sheet.
Application Details:
ELASTOPHENE 180 PS is installed by unrolling it into a bed of hot bitumen (either SEBS or oxidized) applied with a mop. The top surface is covered with a thermofusible plastic film that melts during installation to ensure proper bonding with the cap sheet. The underface is sanded to facilitate adhesion to the hot bitumen. The membrane includes a 75 mm (3 in) selvedge to ensure proper overlap and sealing between adjacent rolls. The recommended installation temperature range is not explicitly stated, but typical SBS-modified bitumen applications are performed in ambient temperatures above 5 °C (41 °F) to ensure proper adhesion and handling.
Special Notes:
- Thickness: Minimum thickness is 2.2 mm (85 mils), including the selvedge area.
- Reinforcement: Non-woven polyester provides excellent mechanical strength and dimensional stability.
- UV Resistance: ELASTOPHENE 180 PS is not UV-stable and must be covered with a UV-resistant cap sheet or protective surfacing.
- Storage: Rolls must be stored upright with the selvedge side on top. If stored outdoors, they must be protected with an opaque cover after removing the delivery packaging.
- Flexibility: Maintains flexibility down to -18 °C (-0.4 °F), making it suitable for cold climate applications.
- Puncture Resistance: The membrane passes puncture resistance tests, ensuring durability under mechanical stress.
- Compatibility: Must be used with compatible SOPREMA cap sheets and hot bitumen adhesives. Not suitable for torch-on or cold-applied systems unless otherwise specified.
- Coverage: Each roll covers approximately 15 m² (161.5 ft²), with a nominal weight of 2.5 kg/m² (0.5 lb/ft²).
This product is a key component in SOPREMA’s SBS-modified bitumen roofing systems and should always be used in accordance with manufacturer guidelines and local building codes. For complete system design and installation recommendations, consult your SOPREMA representative.
