Description

Adhered base sheet membrane composed of SBS modified bitumen and a non-woven polyester reinforcement.

UNITS PER SKID: 30

Material Use:

ELASTOPHENE 180 SANDED is a high-performance SBS-modified bitumen base sheet membrane designed for use in multi-layer roofing and waterproofing systems. It is primarily used as a base ply in hot-applied roofing assemblies, offering excellent mechanical strength, flexibility, and waterproofing capabilities.

System Components:

This membrane is typically used as the base sheet in a multi-ply SBS-modified bitumen roofing system. It is installed in conjunction with a compatible cap sheet membrane (such as SOPRALENE or ELASTOPHENE cap sheets) and applied using hot bitumen (SEBS or oxidized asphalt). The system may also include a primer (such as SOPREMA asphalt primer) applied to the substrate to enhance adhesion prior to membrane installation.

Applications:

ELASTOPHENE 180 SANDED is suitable for use in commercial and industrial flat or low-slope roofing systems. It is ideal for new construction and re-roofing projects where a durable, flexible, and weather-resistant base membrane is required. It is compatible with concrete, wood, and metal substrates when properly primed.

Application Details:

The membrane is installed by unrolling it into a bed of hot bitumen applied with a mop. The product features a sanded surface on both sides and includes a 75 mm (3 in) selvedge for overlapping. The minimum thickness of the membrane is 2.2 mm (85 mils), and it has a mass of 2.6 kg/m² (53 lb/100 ft²). Installation should be performed in dry weather conditions, and the substrate must be clean and free of debris. The membrane should be stored upright with the selvedge side on top and protected from UV exposure prior to installation.

Special Notes:

- Temperature Limits: The membrane maintains flexibility down to -18 °C (-0.4 °F) and has compound stability up to 121 °C (250 °F).

- UV Resistance: ELASTOPHENE 180 SANDED is not UV stable and must be covered with a UV-resistant cap sheet or protective layer.

- Vapour Transmission: Very low water vapour transmission rate (< 2.5 ng/Pa•s•m²), making it suitable for high-performance waterproofing.

- Storage: Rolls must be stored upright and protected from sunlight and moisture.

- Compatibility: Must be used with hot-applied bitumen (SEBS or oxidized). Not suitable for torch-on or cold-applied systems.

- Thickness Control: Ensure consistent application thickness of hot bitumen to achieve proper adhesion and performance.

This product is a key component in SOPREMA’s SBS-modified bitumen roofing systems and should always be used in accordance with manufacturer guidelines and in combination with compatible SOPREMA products for optimal performance.
