Description
Base sheet membrane composed of SBS modified bitumen and a glass mat reinforcement.
UNITS PER SKID:
Material Use:
ELASTOPHENE SANDED is a high-performance SBS-modified bitumen base sheet membrane designed for use in multi-layer roofing systems. It serves as a base ply in hot-applied roofing assemblies, providing excellent waterproofing and mechanical reinforcement. The membrane is reinforced with a durable glass mat and features sanded surfaces on both sides to enhance adhesion and compatibility with subsequent layers.
System Components:
ELASTOPHENE SANDED is typically used as the base sheet in a multi-ply SBS-modified bitumen roofing system. It is installed in conjunction with a compatible cap sheet membrane (such as ELASTOPHENE or SOPRALENE cap sheets) and applied using hot bitumen (either SEBS or oxidized asphalt). The system may also include a vapor barrier, insulation board, and a primer depending on the substrate and project requirements.
Applications:
This membrane is suitable for use in commercial, industrial, and institutional roofing applications where a durable, flexible, and weather-resistant base layer is required. It is ideal for both new construction and re-roofing projects and is compatible with various roof deck types, including concrete and wood.
Application Details:
ELASTOPHENE SANDED is installed by unrolling it into a bed of hot bitumen applied with a mop. The membrane dimensions are 15 m x 1 m (49 ft x 3.3 ft), with a selvedge width of 75 mm (3 in) to facilitate overlapping and sealing. The minimum thickness of the membrane is 2.2 mm (87 mils) before heat conditioning and 2.0 mm (80 mils) after heat conditioning. The mass per unit area is 2.7 kg/m² (60 lb/100 ft²) before heat conditioning and 2.2 kg/m² (45 lb/100 ft²) after.
Special Notes:
- Temperature Limits: The membrane maintains flexibility down to -18 °C (-0.4 °F) and has a compound stability up to 107 °C (225 °F), ensuring performance in a wide range of climates.
- Storage: Rolls must be stored upright with the selvedge side on top. If stored outdoors, they must be covered with an opaque protective cover after removing the delivery packaging.
- UV Resistance: As a base sheet, ELASTOPHENE SANDED is not UV stable and must be covered with a UV-resistant cap sheet.
- Installation Environment: Ensure dry conditions during installation. Avoid application during rain or when the substrate is wet or frozen.
- Compatibility: This membrane is compatible with hot-applied SEBS or oxidized bitumen. It is not designed for torch-on or cold adhesive applications.
- Thickness Control: The membrane has a consistent thickness of approximately 2.2 mm (87 mils), which is critical for ensuring waterproofing performance and mechanical strength.
This product is a foundational component in SOPREMA’s SBS-modified bitumen roofing systems and should be used in conjunction with compatible cap sheets and accessories for optimal performance.
