Material Use:
ELASTOPHENE SP 2.2 is a high-performance vapour barrier membrane designed for use in roofing systems. It is primarily used as a base layer in multi-ply SBS-modified bitumen roofing assemblies, providing excellent waterproofing and vapour resistance. This membrane is suitable for both new construction and roof renovation projects.
System Components:
ELASTOPHENE SP 2.2 is typically used as part of a multi-layer SBS-modified bitumen roofing system. It serves as the vapour barrier or base ply and is installed beneath other compatible SOPREMA membranes such as cap sheets or protective top layers. The membrane is reinforced with a glass mat and features a sanded top surface and a thermofusible plastic film on the underside for heat-welded application. It does not require a primer when applied to compatible substrates via torching, but SOPREMA primers may be used if specified by the system design or substrate condition.
Applications:
This membrane is intended for use in roofing applications where a durable vapour barrier is required. It is suitable for use under insulation in warm roof assemblies or as a base ply in multi-layer SBS-modified bitumen systems. It is compatible with concrete, wood, and metal substrates, provided proper surface preparation is performed.
Application Details:
ELASTOPHENE SP 2.2 is installed using a propane torch in a heat-welded application. The membrane is unrolled and bonded to the substrate by melting the thermofusible plastic film on the underside. The selvedge edge (75 mm wide) ensures proper overlap and sealing between adjacent rolls. The membrane has a nominal thickness of 2.2 mm (87 mils) and a weight of 2.7 kg/m² (0.6 lb/ft²). It is supplied in rolls measuring 15 m x 1 m (49 ft x 3.3 ft).
Special Notes:
- Temperature Limits: The membrane maintains flexibility down to -18 °C (0 °F) and has compound stability up to 107 °C (225 °F).
- UV Resistance: ELASTOPHENE SP 2.2 is not UV stable and must be covered with a UV-resistant cap sheet or protective layer.
- Water Vapour Transmission: Extremely low vapour permeability (< 2.5 ng/Pa•s•m² or < 0.04 perm), making it highly effective as a vapour barrier.
- Storage: Rolls must be stored upright with the selvedge side on top. If stored outdoors, they must be protected with an opaque cover after removing the delivery packaging.
- Installation Conditions: While specific humidity and temperature limits during installation are not provided, standard SBS membrane application guidelines apply—avoid installation during heavy rain or when the substrate is wet or frozen.
- Compatibility: This membrane is compatible with other SOPREMA SBS-modified bitumen products and should be used as part of a complete SOPREMA roofing system for optimal performance.
