Description

Air/vapour barrier membrane composed of SBS modified bitumen and a glass mat reinforcement.

UNITS PER SKID: 25

Material Use:

LASTOBOND 240 is a self-adhesive SBS-modified bitumen membrane designed primarily for use as a roof underlayment and eave protection membrane. It also functions effectively as a vapour barrier in insulated roofing systems when installed over continuous substrates such as gypsum board or concrete decks. The membrane is reinforced with a glass mat and features a sanded surface with a split-back silicone release film on the underside for easy application.

System Components:

LASTOBOND 240 is typically used as part of a roofing system beneath asphalt shingles. When used as a vapour barrier in insulated roofing assemblies, insulation panels must be adhered above it using hot bitumen only. For enhanced adhesion, especially under challenging site conditions, the use of ELASTOCOL STICK primers is recommended prior to membrane installation.

Applications:

This membrane is suitable for use on substrates such as plywood, OSB, and asphaltic boards like SOPRABOARD. It is ideal for residential and commercial roofing applications where a self-adhesive underlayment is required. It is not recommended for use under metal claddings due to its sanded surface.

Application Details:

LASTOBOND 240 is applied by peeling off the silicone release film and pressing the membrane firmly onto the substrate using a membrane roller to ensure full contact. The recommended application temperature range is between 4.5 °C and 50 °C (40 °F to 122 °F). The membrane should be covered with the final roofing material within 24 hours of installation to ensure optimal performance. The membrane has a thickness of 1.6 mm (63 mil) and a selvedge width of 75 mm (3 in) to facilitate overlapping during installation.

Special Notes:

- Primers: ELASTOCOL STICK primers are recommended for improved adhesion on difficult substrates.

- Temperature Limits: Application temperature range is 4.5 °C to 50 °C (40 °F to 122 °F); service temperature range is -45 °C to 90 °C (-49 °F to 194 °F).

- UV Resistance: The product is not UV stable and should be covered with roofing materials within 24 hours.

- Storage: Rolls must be stored upright with the selvedge side on top. If stored outdoors, they must be protected with an opaque cover.

- Performance Characteristics: The membrane exhibits excellent nail sealability, low temperature flexibility (passes at -29 °C / -20 °F), and strong adhesion to plywood (up to 300 N/m at 24 °C / 75 °F).

- Coverage: Each roll measures 19.8 m x 1.1 m (65 ft x 3.6 ft), covering approximately 21.78 m² (234.4 ft²) per roll.

LASTOBOND 240 is a reliable and durable component in roofing systems, offering both waterproofing and vapour barrier capabilities when used in conjunction with compatible materials and proper installation practices.
