Description

PipeShield HAR is a direct‐to‐metal, quick‐set, two component, 100% solids polyurethane designed to protect pipelines from corrosion and abrasion. It is especially formulated for Water Transmission Piping and Piping ID/OD applications.

Material Use

PipeShield HAR – Two-component, 100% solids polyurethane coating.

PipeShield HAR is a quick-set, high-performance, structural polyurethane coating designed for corrosion and abrasion protection of steel, ductile iron, and concrete pipes. It is particularly suited for water transmission pipelines, both internal (ID) and external (OD) surfaces, and other industrial pipe infrastructure.

System Components

This is a standalone plural-component system with a 1:1 mix ratio of Side-A and Side-B. No thinning is permitted, and components must be individually agitated before application. It does not specify a required primer, as it is formulated for direct-to-metal adhesion, especially effective on steel and ductile iron. For recoating, apply the next coat within 1–3 hours or abrade the surface if recoat time has lapsed.

Applications

·         Water transmission piping (ID/OD)

·         Storage tanks (interior linings & exterior)

·         Penstocks and power plant piping

·         Steel pilings and poles (above & below ground)

·         Buried tank exteriors

Application Details

·         Spray System: Plural component, heated airless spray with 1:1 mix ratio.

·         Application Temperature:

o   Material: 125–140°F (53–60°C)

o   Surface: 40–140°F (4–60°C)

o   Ambient: 35–120°F (2–49°C)

o   Humidity: 0–85%, ideally below 50%

·         Surface Prep:

o   Steel: SSPC-SP10 (NACE 2), 3–4 mil (75–100 micron) profile

o   Ductile Iron: 2–5 mils profile

o   Concrete: Abrasive blast to remove laitance

·         Coverage: Theoretical coverage is 1600 ft²/gal/mil. For example, 25 mils dry thickness would require approx. 64 ft²/gal.

·         Thickness:

o   NSF-approved range: 20–120 mils

o   Typical steel application: 25–35 mils in a single multi-pass

o   Unlimited film build achievable

·         Cure Times @75°F:

o   Quick-Set: Touch in 50–60 sec; handle in 4–5 min

o   Medium-Set: 70–90 sec; handle in 6–9 min

o   Slow-Set: 2.5–3 min; handle in 13–15 min

o   Full cure: <7 days

·         Pot Life: Not specified due to in-situ mixing in spray system

·         Recoat Window: 1–3 hours at 70°F (dependent on thickness)

Special Notes

·         UV Stability: Moderate; accelerated weathering (ASTM G154) shows no cracking but some chalking and darkening.

·         VOC Content: Zero VOC, environmentally safe.

·         Hardness: 77 ± 3 Shore D

·         Abrasion Resistance: Excellent (42 mg loss per 1000 cycles, CS17 wheel)

·         Adhesion to Steel: >1,500 psi

·         Dielectric Strength: 845 volts per mil

·         Chemical Resistance: Less than 5% dimensional change in 10% H₂SO₄, 30% NaOH, NaCl, and diesel fuel

·         Storage: 1-year shelf life at 50–79.9°F (10–26.6°C); keep dry and sealed

·         Packaging: 10-gal, 100-gal drum, or 540-gal tote kits

·         Colors: Blue, black, grey, white

·         Safety: Contains isocyanates; appropriate PPE and ventilation required
