Description
Polyeuro® MH-872 is a fast set, rapid curing, aromatic, two component hybrid polyurea/polyurethane spray designed to be applied over EPS, wood, and many other surfaces with better heat stability and greater stiffness.
Material Use:
Polyeuro MH-872 – Two-Component Aromatic Hybrid Polyurethane/Polyurea Protective Coating
Polyeuro MH-872 is a fast-set, rapid-curing, aromatic hybrid polyurethane/polyurea coating primarily designed for protective applications over EPS foam, wood, and various substrates. It forms a rigid, shell-like layer that enhances impact resistance and thermal stability, making it ideal for sculpted architectural forms, protective enclosures, and other surfaces where durability and form-retention are critical.
System Components:
· Base Coat: Polyeuro MH-872 functions as both the base and protective layer in most standalone applications.
· Topcoat (Optional): Due to its aromatic nature, it is not UV stable and will yellow or dull over time. For UV resistance and color retention, it should be topcoated within 12 hours using an aliphatic polyurethane or polyurea.
· Primers (as required): Substrates may require priming based on their type. For example:
o Concrete repairs: PC-260 or Polyprime 21 mixed with sand
o Metal and wood: Specific primers recommended depending on substrate; adhesion testing advised
o No solvent-based primers on polystyrene foams
Applications:
Ideal for:
· Faux rocks, themed architectural shapes
· Wood crates and cabinets
· Food-processing environments (meets USDA criteria)
· Dock flotation devices
· Steel and wood protective coating
· Decorative props and speaker boxes
Application Details:
· Mix Ratio: 1A:1B by volume
· Application Equipment: Heated plural-component spray system (e.g., Graco Reactor)
· Spray Conditions:
o Precondition materials at 80–90°F (27–32°C)
o Spray pressure: 2000+ psi
o Temperature: >150°F (66°C)
· Pot Life: 2–4 seconds at 150°F
· Tack Free Time: 30–45 seconds
· Recoat Window: 0–2 hours
· Service Temperature Range (dry): -40°F to 300°F (-40°C to 149°C)
· Coverage: 1 gallon covers approximately 1600 ft² at 1 mil thickness
· Application Thickness: Adjust based on mil build using coverage estimation formula:
(1600 ft²/ Dry mil) × Solids Content = gal/ft²
Special Notes:
· Not UV Stable: Will yellow/dull under sunlight unless topcoated with aliphatic polyurethane/polyurea
· Surface Preparation: Varies by substrate (shotblasting, sanding, degreasing, etc. per ASTM and SSPC/NACE standards)
· Substrate Compatibility: Concrete (28-day cured), wood, metals, plastics, foams, and textiles with proper prep
· Storage: 1-year shelf life; store at 60–95°F, avoid freezing
· Limitations:
o Do not dilute
o Must be used with desiccant during application
o Contains isocyanates – handle with proper PPE and ventilation
