Description
Applied to existing waterborne coatings and select solvent-based coatings, Pro Industrial™ Sher-Clear™ provides color and gloss protection over newly applied industrial water-borne coatings and select solvent-based coatings.
Material Use:
Sher-Clear™ 1K is a high-gloss, waterborne, one-component (1K) acrylic clear coat designed to provide UV-resistant protection and gloss retention over a variety of industrial coatings. It is primarily used as a protective topcoat to enhance durability and weathering resistance of both waterborne and select solvent-based coatings. This product is suitable for exterior applications and is ideal for use on surfaces such as storage tanks, piping, structural steel, signage, and decorative elements in environments like amusement parks.
System Components:
Sher-Clear™ 1K is used as a final clear coat in a multi-layer coating system. It is compatible with a range of base coats including:
- Waterborne Acrylics: Pro Industrial Bond-Plex, Pro Industrial Acrylic, Pro Industrial DTM Acrylic, Pro Industrial Multi-Surface Acrylic, Pro Industrial Sher-Cryl, and Pro Industrial Spray Lastic Waterborne Dryfall.
- Select Alkyds: Pro Industrial Urethane Alkyd Enamel, Pro Industrial Industrial Enamel, Pro Industrial Industrial Enamel HS, and Pro Industrial Waterbased Alkyd-Urethane.
*Note: Do not use over white or very light pastel-colored alkyds due to potential discoloration.*
Applications:
Sher-Clear™ 1K is recommended for exterior use where long-term gloss and color retention are desired. It is particularly effective in protecting corporate logos, signage, and architectural features from UV degradation and environmental wear. It is also suitable for use in USDA-inspected facilities, making it appropriate for industrial and commercial environments.
Application Details:
- Application Methods: Brush, roll, or spray (airless or conventional).
- Recommended Film Thickness:
- Wet: 3.0–5.5 mils
- Dry: 1.1–2.0 mils (Do not exceed 2.0 mils dry per coat to avoid cloudiness or milky appearance)
- Coverage: 288–577 sq. ft. per gallon depending on application thickness (theoretical coverage at 1 mil dry is 577 sq. ft./gal).
- Pot Life: Not applicable (1K product).
- Drying Times at 3.0 mils wet, 50% RH:
- Touch: 45 minutes at 77°F
- Handle: 1 hour at 77°F
- Recoat: 2 hours at 77°F
- Full Cure: 14 days at 77°F (7 days at 120°F, 21 days at 50°F)
- Temperature Range for Application: Minimum 50°F (10°C), Maximum 120°F (49°C); must be at least 5°F above dew point.
- Humidity Limit: Maximum 85% relative humidity during application.
- UV Resistance: UV Resistant (suitable for exterior exposure).
- Cleanup: Soap and warm water for tools and spills; flush spray equipment with compliant solvent to prevent rust.
Special Notes:
- Do not tint this product.
- Do not apply over white or very light-colored alkyd coatings.
- Always stir by hand before use; do not shake.
- A test patch (2–3 sq. ft.) should be applied and allowed to cure for one week to confirm adhesion and compatibility with the underlying coating.
- Application of this clear coat may alter the appearance of the base color; test in an inconspicuous area before full application.
- For best results, apply using a 50% overlap spray technique and consider cross-spraying to ensure uniform coverage.
- Surface preparation is critical: clean, dull, and dry surfaces are required for optimal adhesion. Glossy surfaces should be abraded, and all contaminants removed.
- Not compliant with SCAQMD or LEED v4 emissions standards.
This product is best used as a final protective clear coat in a system with compatible Pro Industrial base coats, particularly in exterior environments where UV resistance and gloss retention are critical.
