Material Use:
SENTINEL SPRAY ADHESIVE is a high-performance, solvent-based adhesive formulated with synthetic polymers for bonding bare-backed SENTINEL PVC membranes. It is specifically designed for use in both horizontal and vertical applications on roofing systems. The adhesive provides superior bonding strength while complying with all current VOC regulations, making it suitable for environmentally regulated construction projects.
System Components:
SENTINEL SPRAY ADHESIVE is used as part of a roofing membrane system in conjunction with SENTINEL PVC membranes. It is applied to both the underside of the membrane and the substrate to ensure full adhesion. The system includes accessory equipment such as the SENTINEL Spray Gun, Spray Hose (available in 6 ft, 12 ft, or 18 ft), Spray Tip, and optional 24 in extension for the spray gun. These components are essential for proper application and coverage.
Applications:
This adhesive is intended for use in roofing applications where SENTINEL PVC membranes are installed. It is suitable for both flat and vertical surfaces, making it ideal for parapets, walls, and other architectural features requiring membrane adhesion. It is particularly useful in cold weather applications due to its ability to be applied at temperatures as low as -6.6 °C (20 °F), provided the canister is properly conditioned.
Application Details:
Before application, all surfaces must be clean, dry, and free of contaminants such as oil, grease, or debris. The adhesive is sprayed onto both the membrane and the substrate using a 50% overlap pattern to ensure 100% coverage. The spray tip should be held approximately 305 mm (12 in) perpendicular to the surface. Avoid spraying adhesive in seam areas intended for hot air welding. After spraying, allow the adhesive to dry until tacky (approximately 3 to 10 minutes under normal conditions). The membrane must be installed within 30 minutes of the adhesive becoming tacky. If this window is missed, a light recoat is required. Once the membrane is placed, apply pressure with a broom and then a weighted roller to ensure full adhesion. Adhesion should be verified by peeling back a corner of the membrane; proper bonding will show stringing of adhesive on both surfaces.
Special Notes:
- Temperature Requirements: Minimum application temperature is -6.6 °C (20 °F), but the canister must be conditioned to at least 21 °C (70 °F) for proper spray performance. The canister should not be heated above 32 °C (90 °F) to avoid risk of explosion.
- Curing Time: Approximately 24 hours at 21 °C (70 °F), though this may vary with ambient temperature and humidity.
- Pot Life: Not applicable due to pressurized canister format.
- Coverage Rate: A 30 lb canister covers approximately 500–600 ft² (two-sided application) or 1,000–1,200 ft² (one-sided application), depending on surface texture and application technique.
- Storage: Store between 16 °C and 35 °C (60 °F and 95 °F) in a dry, well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight. Shelf life is 12 months in original sealed container.
- UV Stability: Not applicable to adhesive; UV resistance is provided by the SENTINEL PVC membrane.
- Limitations: Do not use with aluminum or copper application equipment. Avoid overheating the canister. Adhesive must not contaminate membrane seams intended for hot air welding.
