SOPRA-CELLULOSE VENT is a rigid, prefolded cardboard accessory designed to be used in conjunction with SOPRA-CELLULOSE insulation systems in ventilated attic spaces. Its primary function is to prevent cellulose insulation from spilling into the roof overhang during and after installation, while also ensuring continuous airflow for proper attic ventilation. The VENT XL version is an extended format designed to meet updated insulation requirements, including those up to R-61 (RSI-10.8), as per provincial and national building codes.
System Components:
SOPRA-CELLULOSE VENT is used as part of the SOPRA-CELLULOSE insulation system. The complete system includes:
- SOPRA-CELLULOSE insulation (blown-in cellulose insulation)
- SOPRA-CELLULOSE VENT or VENT XL (ventilation baffle)
- SOPRA-CELLULOSE RULER (depth gauge for insulation thickness)
These components work together to ensure proper insulation depth, air circulation, and compliance with energy efficiency standards.
Applications:
This product is intended for indoor use in ventilated attic spaces. It is particularly suited for residential and commercial buildings where blown-in cellulose insulation is used and where maintaining attic ventilation is critical to the building envelope's performance.
Application Details:
SOPRA-CELLULOSE VENT is installed prior to the application of SOPRA-CELLULOSE insulation. It is stapled along the roof overhang inside the attic, with its prefolded sides creating a minimum 38 mm (1 1/2 inch) air channel to allow continuous airflow. This setup ensures that insulation does not block soffit vents and that the attic remains properly ventilated.
Special Notes:
- SOPRA-CELLULOSE VENT must always be used in conjunction with SOPRA-CELLULOSE insulation in ventilated attic applications.
- The VENT XL version is recommended for applications requiring higher R-values, such as R-61 or RSI-10.8.
- The product is made of cardboard and must be stored in a cool, dry place to prevent moisture damage.
- Each standard package contains 50 pieces, with 24 packages per skid for the standard version and 12 packages per skid for the XL version.
- This is a non-structural accessory and should not be used as a load-bearing component.
- No specific temperature or humidity limitations are noted for installation, but as a cardboard product, it should be kept dry during storage and installation.
This product is a passive accessory and does not have pot life, curing time, or thickness limitations in the same way as liquid or cementitious materials. However, its correct installation is essential for the performance of the overall insulation and ventilation system.
