Material Use:
SOPRA-FOAM DOORS AND WINDOWS is a single-component, low-expansion polyurethane foam designed for sealing and insulating gaps around doors, windows, and other penetrations such as wiring, plumbing, and HVAC ducts. It is suitable for both interior and exterior applications and provides an airtight, water-resistant, and energy-efficient seal. The foam adheres permanently to most common construction materials and is designed to perform in a wide range of climates and temperatures.
System Components:
This product is a standalone system but can be used in conjunction with SOPREMA’s SOPRASEAL membranes and RESISTO’s smooth-surface membranes for enhanced air and moisture sealing around openings. For professional applications, it is compatible with applicator guns and should be cleaned using SOPRA-FOAM CL-F cleaner to maintain tool functionality.
Applications:
SOPRA-FOAM DOORS AND WINDOWS is ideal for sealing joints and gaps around window and door frames, as well as service penetrations in walls. It is particularly effective in reducing air infiltration and improving energy efficiency in both residential and commercial construction. It can be used on substrates such as vinyl, wood, metal, polystyrene, and polyisocyanurate.
Application Details:
The foam can be applied using either the straw method or a professional applicator gun. Surfaces must be clean, dry, and free of contaminants. Porous surfaces should be lightly moistened with water to aid in curing. The foam should be applied in layers no thicker than 25 mm (1 inch) to allow for proper expansion and curing. For best results, the foam should be conditioned to approximately 20 °C (68 °F) for 12 hours prior to application. The product can be applied in ambient temperatures ranging from -6 to 30 °C (21 to 86 °F), and once cured, it can withstand service temperatures from -40 to 80 °C (-40 to 176 °F). The foam becomes tack-free in approximately 6–7 minutes, can be trimmed after 20–45 minutes, and reaches full cure in 24 hours under standard conditions (23 °C and 50% RH). After curing, the foam can be sanded, painted, or stained. For outdoor use, it is recommended to coat or paint the foam to protect it from UV degradation.
Special Notes:
- SOPRA-FOAM DOORS AND WINDOWS is not UV stable and will discolor and degrade when exposed to sunlight unless protected with paint or coating.
- The foam is not suitable for use on silicone or PTFE substrates.
- It is not intended for use in fire-rated assemblies or where fire-retardant materials are required.
- The product has a shelf life of 18 months when stored upright in a dry environment between 5 and 25 °C (41 and 77 °F), away from direct sunlight.
- Yields vary by cartridge size and application method, with approximate expansion yields ranging from 14 to 54 liters per gallon depending on the format.
- Always clean the applicator gun with SOPRA-FOAM CL-F cleaner immediately after use to prevent hardening of the foam inside the tool.
This product is best used as part of a comprehensive air and moisture barrier system in conjunction with compatible SOPREMA or RESISTO membranes for optimal performance in building envelope applications.
