Description
Single-component polyurethane foam with flame retardant, ideal for insulation around electrical and plumbing penetrations. Creates a gas- and smoke-tight seal. Recommended for: sealing gaps, joints, cavities, and around pipes, outlets, and conduits.
UNITS PER SKID: 960
Material Use:
SOPRA-FOAM FIREBLOCK is a single-component, moisture-cured polyurethane foam formulated with flame retardants. It is designed for insulation and sealing applications where fire-retardant properties are required. This foam is ideal for filling and sealing gaps, joints, and cavities up to 25 mm (1 inch), particularly around service penetrations such as electrical outlets, plumbing fixtures, and ductwork passing through floors and walls. It is not a fireproof material but provides fire-blocking capabilities to help prevent the spread of smoke and gases.
System Components:
SOPRA-FOAM FIREBLOCK is a standalone product but may be used in conjunction with SOPREMA’s SOPRASEAL membranes and RESISTO’s smooth-surface membranes for enhanced air and moisture sealing. For cleaning uncured foam, SOPRA-FOAM CL-F cleaner is recommended. No primer is required for application, but surface preparation is essential for optimal adhesion.
Applications:
This product is suitable for use in both residential and commercial construction where fire-blocking and air-sealing are necessary. It adheres well to a variety of substrates including vinyl, wood, metal, polystyrene, and polyisocyanurate. It is particularly effective for sealing around electrical and plumbing penetrations, and for use in conjunction with door and window membranes.
Application Details:
- Surface Preparation: Surfaces must be clean, dry, and free of dust, oil, and loose particles. Porous surfaces should be lightly moistened with water before application to improve adhesion and curing.
- Application Method: Shake the 500 ml cartridge well before use. Attach the straw applicator and apply foam in layers no thicker than 25 mm (1 inch) to allow for proper expansion and curing. For best results, the cartridge should be conditioned to approximately 20 °C (68 °F) for 12 hours prior to use.
- Temperature Range: Application temperature should be between 5 °C and 30 °C (41 °F to 86 °F). Service temperature range after curing is -40 °C to 80 °C (-40 °F to 176 °F).
- Pot Life / Tack-Free Time: Tack-free in approximately 6 ± 2 minutes at 23 °C (73 °F) and 50% relative humidity.
- Trim Time: 20 to 45 minutes.
- Curing Time: Full cure is achieved in 24 hours under standard conditions.
- Coverage / Yield: Approximately 20 L per gallon. Actual yield may vary depending on temperature, humidity, and application technique.
- Thickness Limits: Maximum application thickness per layer is 25 mm (1 inch). Multiple layers may be applied with adequate curing time between layers.
Special Notes:
- SOPRA-FOAM FIREBLOCK is not UV stable. Prolonged exposure to sunlight will cause discoloration and degradation of the foam. For outdoor applications, it is recommended to paint or coat the cured foam to protect it from UV exposure.
- The foam is not suitable for use on silicone or PTFE substrates.
- Cured foam can be sanded, painted, or stained after 24 hours.
- Store cartridges upright in a dry location, away from direct sunlight, at temperatures between 5 °C and 25 °C (41 °F to 77 °F). Shelf life is 12 months from the date of manufacture when stored properly.
- This product meets the requirements of EN ISO 11925-2:2020 (Class E) and DIN 4102 (Class B2) for fire performance, and has a flame spread rating of 10 and smoke developed classification of 15 per CAN/ULC-S102.
SOPRA-FOAM FIREBLOCK is a reliable and easy-to-use fire-blocking foam ideal for sealing and insulating penetrations in walls and floors, contributing to improved building safety and energy efficiency.
