Description

SOPRA IV membrane is composed of a glass mat reinforcement coated with oxidized bitumen.

UNITS PER SKID: 25

Material Use:

SOPRA IV is a bituminous roofing membrane designed for use in Built-Up Roofing (B.U.R.) systems. It serves as a base or interply sheet and can also be used in combination with SBS-modified bitumen membranes to enhance waterproofing performance. It is particularly suited for commercial and industrial flat or low-slope roofing applications.

System Components:

SOPRA IV is composed of a glass mat reinforcement saturated with oxidized bitumen. It is typically used as part of a multi-layer roofing system, either as a base sheet or intermediate ply. When used in combination with SBS-modified bitumen membranes, SOPRA IV provides additional reinforcement and waterproofing integrity. The system requires the use of hot-applied bitumen for installation, which acts as both the adhesive and waterproofing agent.

Applications:

SOPRA IV is intended for use in B.U.R. (Built-Up Roofing) systems and hybrid systems that combine traditional bituminous felts with SBS-modified membranes. It is suitable for new construction and re-roofing projects on commercial, institutional, and industrial buildings. It is not intended for exposed applications and must be covered with additional plies or a protective cap sheet.

Application Details:

SOPRA IV is installed using hot bitumen, which is mopped onto the substrate before unrolling the membrane into place. Proper alignment and full embedment in the bitumen are essential for optimal performance. The membrane must be installed by experienced roofing professionals following SOPREMA’s guidelines. The product is not self-adhered and requires hot asphalt for bonding.

Special Notes:

- Primers/Base Coats: SOPRA IV does not require a primer when used with hot bitumen but may be used in conjunction with SBS-modified base or cap sheets in hybrid systems.

- Final Coats: SOPRA IV must be covered with additional plies or a cap sheet; it is not UV stable and should not be left exposed.

- Environmental Conditions: Installation should be performed in dry weather conditions. The hot bitumen must be applied at the correct temperature to ensure proper adhesion.

- Storage: Rolls must be stored upright with the selvedge side on top. If stored outdoors, they must be protected with an opaque cover to prevent UV degradation and moisture absorption.

- UV Resistance: SOPRA IV is not UV stable and must be protected with a UV-resistant cap sheet or surfacing layer.

- Thickness and Coverage: The membrane has a nominal weight of 0.3 kg/m² (0.06 lb/ft²). Each roll measures 54 m x 0.914 m (177 ft x 3 ft), providing approximately 49.4 m² (532 ft²) of coverage per roll before overlaps.

- Compliance: SOPRA IV meets the requirements of CSA A123.17 and ASTM D2178 - Type IV, ensuring high performance in roofing applications.

This material is best used as part of a multi-layer roofing system and is compatible with other SOPREMA SBS-modified membranes for enhanced durability and waterproofing.
