Description
SOPRAFELT NO.
UNITS PER SKID: 20
Material Use:
SOPRAFELT NO. 15 is a saturated felt membrane used primarily as a base or ply sheet in Built-Up Roofing (B.U.R.) systems. It serves as a reinforcing layer within multi-ply roofing assemblies, providing structural integrity and aiding in waterproofing performance.
System Components:
SOPRAFELT NO. 15 is typically used in conjunction with hot-applied bitumen (asphalt) and other roofing plies or cap sheets to form a complete B.U.R. system. It is not a standalone waterproofing membrane but functions as part of a layered system. The felt is saturated with asphalt and reinforced with organic fibers, making it compatible with traditional hot-mopped roofing systems.
Applications:
This material is designed for use in commercial and industrial flat or low-slope roofing applications where a multi-ply B.U.R. system is specified. It is suitable for new construction as well as re-roofing projects. SOPRAFELT NO. 15 is often used as an intermediate ply between base sheets and cap sheets in hot-applied roofing systems.
Application Details:
SOPRAFELT NO. 15 is installed by unrolling it into a bed of hot bitumen applied with a mop. The product features guide lines on the top surface to assist with proper alignment during installation. It must be installed in accordance with SOPREMA’s guidelines and local building codes. The felt should be stored upright and protected from the elements prior to installation. It is not UV stable and must be covered by additional roofing layers.
Special Notes:
- Installation Temperature: SOPRAFELT NO. 15 is installed using hot bitumen, which typically requires ambient temperatures above 5 °C (41 °F) to ensure proper adhesion and workability.
- UV Resistance: This material is not UV stable and must be covered by additional roofing layers such as cap sheets or gravel surfacing.
- Thickness and Coverage: Each roll measures 43.8 m x 0.914 m (144 ft x 36 in), covering approximately 39.2 m² (422 ft²) per roll. The net mass of saturated felt is 548 g/m² (11.2 lb/ft²).
- Storage: Rolls must be stored upright with the selvedge side on top. If stored outdoors, they must be protected with an opaque cover to prevent UV degradation and moisture absorption.
- Compliance: SOPRAFELT NO. 15 meets the requirements of CSA A123.3 Type 1 and ASTM D146 standards for saturated felts used in roofing applications.
This material is best used as part of a complete B.U.R. system and should not be used as a standalone waterproofing layer. Always consult with SOPREMA technical representatives for system compatibility and installation best practices.
