Material Use:

SOPRAFIX BASE 630 is a high-performance SBS-modified bitumen base sheet membrane designed for use in multi-layer roofing systems. It serves as the mechanically fastened base ply in SOPREMA’s SOPRAFIX roofing assemblies, providing robust waterproofing and mechanical strength for commercial and industrial flat roof applications.

System Components:

SOPRAFIX BASE 630 is typically used as the base layer in a multi-ply SBS-modified bitumen roofing system. It is installed with SOPREMA-approved mechanical fasteners (screws and plates) and is compatible with SOPRALAP for sealing end laps. The membrane features DUO SELVEDGE technology, which allows for immediate sealing of side laps using a propane torch. A cap sheet membrane (not specified in this TDS but typically SOPRALENE or ELASTOPHENE series) is installed over SOPRAFIX BASE 630 to complete the system.

Applications:

This membrane is intended for use on steel deck roofing systems in commercial and industrial buildings. It is suitable for new construction and re-roofing projects where a mechanically fastened SBS-modified bitumen system is specified. It is particularly effective in areas requiring high wind uplift resistance, as it can be installed with varying fastener densities based on wind uplift testing and project-specific requirements.

Application Details:

SOPRAFIX BASE 630 is installed perpendicular to the steel deck ribs and mechanically fastened through the side selvedge at 150 mm (6 in) intervals. Fasteners must be placed on the upper part of the deck ribs. Preliminary fasteners are also required to secure insulation boards beneath the membrane. The final 25 mm (1 in) of the side lap must be heat-welded using a propane torch. End laps are sealed with SOPRALAP, a self-adhered or torch-applied strip centered over the joint. The membrane is surfaced with a thermofusible plastic film and has a sanded underface to enhance adhesion and handling.

Special Notes:

- Installation Temperature Range: Not explicitly stated, but SBS-modified bitumen membranes are typically installed in ambient temperatures above 0 °C (32 °F) to ensure proper adhesion and flexibility.

- UV Resistance: SOPRAFIX BASE 630 is not UV stable and must be covered with a UV-resistant cap sheet.

- Thickness: Minimum membrane thickness is 2.5 mm (98 mils), with a selvedge thickness of 2.25 mm (89 mils).

- Storage: Rolls must be stored upright with the selvedge side on top. If stored outdoors, they must be protected with an opaque cover.

- Reinforcement: Composite reinforcement provides dimensional stability and strength.

- Low Temperature Flexibility: Rated to -27 °C (-17 °F), indicating excellent cold weather performance.

- Puncture Resistance: Passes standard puncture resistance tests, suitable for high-traffic or mechanically fastened systems.

- Compatibility: Designed to be used with SOPREMA fasteners and SOPRALAP for end lap sealing. A compatible SBS-modified bitumen cap sheet must be installed over SOPRAFIX BASE 630 to complete the waterproofing system.

This product is a key component in SOPREMA’s SOPRAFIX mechanically fastened roofing systems and must be used in conjunction with other SOPREMA-approved materials to ensure full system performance and warranty compliance.
