Description
Self-adhesive base sheet composed of a glass mat reinforcement and SBS modified bitumen.
UNITS PER SKID: 25
Material Use:
SOPRAFLASH FLAM STICK is a self-adhesive SBS-modified bitumen base sheet membrane designed for use in roofing applications. It serves as a base layer in multi-ply waterproofing systems, particularly for roofing assemblies requiring high performance and ease of installation. The membrane is reinforced with a glass mat and features a thermofusible plastic film on the surface and a silicone release film on the self-adhesive underface.
System Components:
SOPRAFLASH FLAM STICK is typically used in conjunction with ELASTOCOL STICK primers, which are required to prepare the substrate for optimal adhesion. The membrane is part of a larger SBS-modified bitumen roofing system and may be overlaid with additional SBS cap sheets or other compatible SOPREMA membranes, depending on the system design. The system includes:
- Primer: ELASTOCOL STICK (required for substrate preparation)
- Base Sheet: SOPRAFLASH FLAM STICK
- Cap Sheet (optional): Compatible SOPREMA SBS-modified bitumen cap sheets
Applications:
This membrane is used in roofing systems for both new construction and renovation projects. It is suitable for use on various substrates, including concrete and wood, provided they are primed appropriately. SOPRAFLASH FLAM STICK is ideal for areas requiring a self-adhered base sheet with enhanced flexibility and adhesion, especially in environments where torching is limited or not permitted.
Application Details:
- Installation Method: Self-adhesive application by removing the silicone release film and pressing the membrane into place with a membrane roller. End laps require the plastic film to be burned off for 150 mm (6 in), and the final 25 mm (1 in) of the side lap must be welded using a propane torch.
- Primer Requirement: Substrate must be primed with ELASTOCOL STICK primer before membrane installation.
- Minimum Application Temperature:
- Summer Grade: 10 °C (50 °F)
- Winter Grade: -10 °C (14 °F)
- Surface Preparation: Substrate must be clean, dry, and free of loose particles.
Special Notes:
- Thickness: Minimum 2.5 mm (98 mils) before heat conditioning; 2.0 mm (80 mils) after heat conditioning.
- Selvedge Width: 75 mm (3 in)
- Dimensions: 15 m x 1 m (49 ft x 3.3 ft)
- Mass per Unit Area: Minimum 3.0 kg/m² (60 lb/100 ft²)
- Low Temperature Flexibility: -30 °C (-22 °F)
- UV Resistance: Not UV stable; must be covered with a UV-resistant cap sheet or protective layer.
- Storage: Rolls must be stored upright with the selvedge side on top. If stored outdoors, they must be covered with an opaque protective cover after removing the delivery packaging.
Limitations and Environmental Conditions:
- Temperature Range for Installation: Must be installed at or above the minimum temperature for the selected grade (summer or winter).
- Humidity Considerations: Substrate must be dry; moisture can impair adhesion.
- Curing Time: As a self-adhesive membrane, it does not require curing in the traditional sense, but full adhesion is achieved through pressure and time.
- UV Exposure: Not designed for prolonged UV exposure; must be protected by a cap sheet or other covering layer.
SOPRAFLASH FLAM STICK is a reliable and efficient base sheet solution for SBS-modified bitumen roofing systems, offering ease of installation and strong adhesion when used with the appropriate primer and installed under the recommended environmental conditions.
