Description
Heat-welded cover membrane composed of a composite reinforcement and SBS modified bitumen designed to ensure waterproofing of the end laps of some SOPREMA products
Material Use:
SOPRALAP is a waterproofing cover strip designed for use in roofing systems. It is primarily used to seal end laps on composite panels and base sheet membranes such as COLVENT, ensuring a watertight finish. It can also be used with other base sheets that have a thermofusible surface or in applications requiring a heat-welded cover strip.
System Components:
SOPRALAP is composed of SBS (Styrene-Butadiene-Styrene) modified bitumen reinforced with a composite mat. Both the top and bottom surfaces are covered with a thermofusible plastic film, allowing for heat-welded installation. It is typically used in conjunction with base sheet membranes like COLVENT, forming a complete waterproofing system.
Applications:
SOPRALAP is used in roofing applications, particularly for sealing end laps of SBS-modified bitumen base sheets. It is suitable for use in both new construction and roof repair projects where a durable, heat-welded waterproofing solution is required.
Application Details:
SOPRALAP is installed using a propane torch to heat-weld the membrane to the substrate or base sheet. The product is available in two dimensions: 10 x 0.23 m (32.81 ft x 9 in) and 10 x 0.33 m (32.81 ft x 13 in), with a nominal thickness of 2.5 mm (98 mils). The material must be stored upright with the selvedge side on top and protected from UV exposure if stored outdoors.
Special Notes:
- SOPRALAP complies with CSA A123.23-15, Type C, Grade 3 standards.
- It exhibits excellent mechanical properties, including high strain energy and peak load resistance both before and after heat conditioning.
- The product maintains flexibility at low temperatures down to -27 °C (-17 °F) and has a high compound stability up to 121 °C (250 °F).
- SOPRALAP is resistant to puncture and demonstrates good dimensional stability (±0.2%).
- This material is not UV-stable and should be covered with a UV-resistant cap sheet or protected from prolonged sun exposure.
- No specific pot life or curing time is applicable, as this is a heat-welded membrane rather than a liquid-applied product.
- Environmental conditions such as temperature and humidity are less critical during installation compared to liquid systems, but proper torching technique and dry substrate conditions are essential for optimal adhesion and performance.
SOPRALAP is a reliable and durable component in SBS-modified bitumen roofing systems, particularly effective in sealing overlaps and enhancing the waterproofing integrity of the roof assembly.
