Material Use:
SOPRALENE 180 PS 3.0 is a high-performance SBS-modified bitumen base sheet membrane designed for use in multi-layer roofing and waterproofing systems. It is primarily used as a base ply in built-up roofing systems for commercial and industrial flat or low-slope roofs.
System Components:
SOPRALENE 180 PS 3.0 is typically used in conjunction with other SOPREMA SBS-modified bitumen membranes to form a complete waterproofing system. It serves as the base sheet and is installed using hot bitumen (either SEBS or oxidized bitumen). A compatible cap sheet, such as SOPRALENE 180 FR GR or ELASTOPHENE FR GR, is recommended as the final layer to complete the system. The system may also include a primer (such as ELASTOCOL 500 or ELASTOCOL STICK) when applied over concrete or metal substrates to enhance adhesion.
Applications:
This membrane is suitable for use in multi-ply roofing systems on commercial, institutional, and industrial buildings. It is ideal for new construction and re-roofing projects where a durable, flexible, and weather-resistant base sheet is required. Application Details:
SOPRALENE 180 PS 3.0 is installed by unrolling it into a bed of hot bitumen applied with a mop. The membrane features a thermofusible plastic film on the top surface, which melts during installation to ensure proper bonding with the subsequent layer. The underface is sanded to facilitate adhesion to the hot bitumen. The membrane includes a 75 mm (3 in) selvedge to ensure proper overlap and sealing between adjacent rolls.
Special Notes:
- Thickness: Minimum thickness is 3.0 mm (118 mils), with a selvedge thickness also at 3.0 mm.
- Reinforcement: Non-woven polyester provides excellent mechanical strength and dimensional stability.
- Temperature Limits: The membrane maintains flexibility down to -18 °C (-0.4 °F) and has compound stability up to 121 °C (250 °F).
- UV Resistance: SOPRALENE 180 PS 3.0 is not UV stable and must be covered with a UV-resistant cap sheet or protective layer.
- Storage: Rolls must be stored upright with the selvedge side on top. If stored outdoors, they must be protected with an opaque cover.
- Installation Conditions: Ensure ambient and substrate temperatures are suitable for hot bitumen application. Avoid installation during rain or high humidity.
- Coverage: Each roll covers approximately 10 m² (107.6 ft²), accounting for overlaps.
