Description
Heat-welded base sheet membrane composed of a non-woven polyester reinforcement and SBS modified bitumen.
UNITS PER SKID: 30
Material Use:
SOPRALENE FLAM 180 is a high-performance SBS-modified bitumen base sheet membrane designed for use in multi-layer roofing and waterproofing systems. It is primarily used as a base ply in torch-applied roofing assemblies, offering excellent mechanical strength, flexibility, and resistance to environmental stress.
System Components:
SOPRALENE FLAM 180 is typically used as the base sheet in a multi-layer SBS-modified bitumen roofing system. It is installed using heat-welding (torch application) and is designed to be overlaid with a compatible SBS-modified bitumen cap sheet, such as SOPRALENE FLAM 250 or SOPRALENE FLAM CAP. The system may also include a primer such as ELASTOCOL STICK or ELASTOCOL 500 for improved adhesion to the substrate, depending on the surface condition and type.
Applications:
This membrane is suitable for use in new construction and re-roofing projects on commercial, industrial, and institutional buildings. It is ideal for flat or low-slope roofs where a durable, torch-applied waterproofing system is required. SOPRALENE FLAM 180 is compatible with concrete, wood, and metal substrates when properly primed.
Application Details:
SOPRALENE FLAM 180 is installed by heat-welding with a propane torch. The membrane is supplied in rolls measuring 10 m x 1 m (33 ft x 3.3 ft) and features a 75 mm (3 in) selvedge for overlapping. Both the top and bottom surfaces are covered with a thermofusible plastic film that melts during torching to ensure proper adhesion. The minimum thickness of the membrane is 3.0 mm (118 mils), and it has a mass of 3.6 kg/m² (70 lb/100 ft²). The membrane must be applied in dry conditions and should not be installed during rain or snow.
Special Notes:
- Temperature Limits: The membrane maintains flexibility down to -18 °C (-0.4 °F) and has a compound stability up to 121 °C (250 °F).
- Storage: Rolls must be stored upright with the selvedge side on top. If stored outdoors, they must be protected with an opaque cover after removing the delivery packaging.
- UV Resistance: SOPRALENE FLAM 180 is not UV-stable and must be covered with a UV-resistant cap sheet or protective layer.
- Installation Conditions: Ensure ambient and substrate temperatures are above freezing and that the surface is clean and dry before application.
- Compatibility: This membrane is compatible with other SOPREMA SBS-modified bitumen products and should be used as part of a complete SOPREMA roofing system for optimal performance.
- Thickness and Coverage: The membrane has a nominal thickness of 3.0 mm and covers approximately 10 m² (107.6 ft²) per roll, not accounting for overlaps.
SOPRALENE FLAM 180 is a robust and reliable base sheet membrane that forms the foundation of a durable, torch-applied SBS roofing system. When used in conjunction with compatible primers and cap sheets, it provides long-lasting waterproofing protection for a wide range of roofing applications.
