2-1 SOPRASMART BOARD is a high-performance, factory-laminated base sheet panel designed for use in roofing systems. It combines a durable SBS-modified bitumen membrane with a semi-rigid asphaltic support board (SOPRABOARD), providing both waterproofing and structural support in a single product. It is primarily used as a base sheet in multi-layer roofing assemblies.
System Components:
The 2-1 SOPRASMART BOARD system consists of the following components:
- Membrane Layer: SBS-modified bitumen membrane reinforced with non-woven polyester and surfaced with a thermofusible plastic film.
- Support Panel: SOPRABOARD asphaltic board available in three thicknesses: 1/8 in (3.2 mm), 3/16 in (4.8 mm), and 1/4 in (6.3 mm).
- Selvedge: DUO SELVEDGE system with a self-adhered section and a torch-applied section for secure lap joints.
- Adhesives (optional): DUOTACK adhesive for adhered applications.
- Fasteners (optional): SOPREMA screws and plates for mechanical fastening to steel decks.
Applications:
2-1 SOPRASMART BOARD is used in commercial and industrial roofing systems as a base sheet. It is suitable for new construction and re-roofing projects, particularly where high-performance waterproofing and mechanical strength are required. It can be installed over steel decks, concrete, or wood substrates.
Application Details:
- Installation Methods:
- *Hot Bitumen:* Installed in a bed of SEBS or oxidized bitumen applied with a mop.
- *Adhesive:* Adhered using DUOTACK adhesive.
- *Mechanically Fastened:* Fastened to steel decks using SOPREMA screws and plates, with fasteners placed on the top flanges of the deck ribs.
- Lap Joints: Side laps feature DUO SELVEDGE with a self-adhered section and a torch-applied section. End laps must be aligned and covered with SOPRALAP membrane.
- Panel Dimensions: 0.914 m x 2.44 m (3 ft x 8 ft).
- Selvedge Width: 90 mm (3.5 in).
- Total Thickness: Ranges from 5.4 mm (7/32 in) to 8.5 mm (11/32 in), depending on the support panel thickness.
- Weight: Ranges from 6.9 kg/m² (1.2 lb/ft²) to 12.0 kg/m² (2.5 lb/ft²).
Special Notes:
- Environmental Conditions: The product must be stored flat and protected from weather. If stored outdoors, it must be covered with an opaque protective cover.
- Temperature Resistance: The membrane maintains compound stability up to 121 °C (250 °F) and flexibility down to -18 °C (0 °F).
- UV Resistance: The product is not UV-stable and must be covered with a cap sheet or other UV-protective layer.
- Compatibility: Can be used with SOPREMA’s DUOTACK adhesive and SOPRALAP membrane for complete system integration.
- Standards Compliance:
- Membrane meets CSA A123.23 Type B, Grade 3.
- Support panel (SOPRABOARD) meets CSA A123.25.
- Mechanical Properties:
- Puncture resistance: 500 N (112 lbf).
- Compressive strength: up to 11,100 kPa (1,610 psi).
- Water absorption: 2.5%.
- Dimensional stability: < ±0.5%.
- Thickness Limits: Minimum total thickness is 5.4 mm (7/32 in); maximum is 8.5 mm (11/32 in), depending on the selected SOPRABOARD thickness.
This product is ideal for use as part of a multi-layer SBS-modified bitumen roofing system, where it serves as a robust and efficient base sheet. It must be overlaid with a compatible cap sheet for UV protection and long-term performance.
