2-1 SOPRASMART ROCK SANDED is a high-performance, factory-laminated base sheet panel designed for use in roofing systems. It functions as a thermal barrier, vapour barrier, and waterproofing layer. The product is composed of an SBS-modified bitumen membrane with a non-woven polyester reinforcement and a sanded surface, laminated onto a high-density mineral fiber (rock wool) insulation board. It is suitable for use in both new construction and re-roofing applications.
System Components:
This material is a composite system in itself, combining a waterproofing SBS-modified bitumen membrane with a thermal insulation layer. It is typically used in conjunction with the following components:
- Adhesives: DUOTACK adhesive for adhered applications.
- Primers: ELASTOCOL STICK primer is required when applying SOPRALAP STICK membrane over end laps.
- Fasteners: SOPREMA screws and plates for mechanical fastening to steel decks.
- Sealing Accessories: SOPRALAP STICK membrane for sealing end laps, applied over ELASTOCOL STICK primer.
- Hot Bitumen: SEBS or oxidized bitumen for mop-applied installations.

2-1 SOPRASMART ROCK SANDED is used in roofing systems as a base sheet that provides both insulation and waterproofing. It is suitable for use over steel decks and can be installed using hot bitumen, DUOTACK adhesive, or mechanical fasteners. The product is ideal for commercial and industrial flat or low-slope roofs where thermal performance and vapour control are required.
Application Details:
- Installation Methods: Can be installed using hot bitumen (SEBS or oxidized), DUOTACK adhesive, or mechanically fastened with SOPREMA screws and plates.
- Lap Sealing: Side laps feature a DUO SELVEDGE with a self-adhered section and a section requiring hot-air welding. End laps must be aligned and sealed with SOPRALAP STICK membrane over ELASTOCOL STICK primer.
- Orientation: Membranes must be installed perpendicular to steel deck ribs, with fasteners placed on top flanges.

Special Notes:
- Environmental Conditions: The product must be stored flat and protected from weather. If stored outdoors, it must be covered with an opaque protective cover.
- Fire Resistance: Contributes to compliance with CAN/ULC-S126 for fire spread under roof-deck assemblies.
- Water Vapour Transmission: Less than 2.5 ng/Pa•s•m² (< 0.04 perm), making it an effective vapour barrier.
- Thermal Resistance: R-value of 4.0 (hr•ft²•°F/BTU) for 25.4 mm (1 in) thickness.
- Compressive Strength: 5 kPa (12 psi) at 10% deformation, 190 kPa (28 psi) at 25% deformation.
- UV Resistance: The sanded surface is not UV-stable and must be covered with a cap sheet or other UV-resistant top layer.
- Selvedge Width: 75 mm (3 in) for side lap sealing.
