Material Use:

ACS Thermal Clips are engineered components used in exterior wall assemblies to reduce thermal bridging and improve the energy efficiency of building envelopes. These clips are designed to support cladding systems while incorporating a thermal break to minimize heat transfer through the wall structure. They are suitable for use in both new construction and retrofit applications where thermal performance and structural integrity are critical.

System Components:

The ACS Thermal Clip system consists of two main configurations:

- ACS-S (Solid) Clips: These are Z-girt shaped, non-adjustable clips available in a wide range of sizes to accommodate various insulation thicknesses.

- ACS-A (Adjustable) Clips: These are two-piece, interlocking L-shaped stainless steel components that allow for on-site depth adjustment, ideal for uneven substrates or steel stud walls.

Both clip types include a high-density polyisocyanurate thermal break pad at the back, which significantly reduces thermal bridging. The stainless steel components are made from 16-gauge 304/304L stainless steel with a 2B finish, ensuring durability and corrosion resistance.

Applications:

ACS Thermal Clips are used in ventilated rainscreen cladding systems, masonry veneer support systems, and other exterior wall assemblies where thermal performance and structural support are required. They are particularly effective in high-performance building envelopes aiming to meet or exceed energy code requirements. The adjustable version is especially useful for installations over uneven substrates or where precise alignment is necessary.

Application Details:

Installation of ACS Thermal Clips requires precise layout using laser levels or chalk lines to ensure alignment. The clips are fastened to the substrate using project-specified fasteners. For adjustable clips, the inner and outer components are assembled on-site and secured using locking pliers and an impact driver. Clip spacing and attachment must be determined based on structural and thermal performance requirements, and should follow guidance from the SOPREMA Structural Design Guide and BUILD BETTER Guide. A structural engineer must review the cladding system design to ensure compliance with project-specific requirements such as wind loads, cladding weight, and substructure tolerances.

Special Notes:

- The thermal break pad has a thickness of 12.7 mm (1/2 in) and provides a thermal resistance of 0.44 RSI (R-2.5) at 24°C (75°F).

- The pad exhibits excellent compressive strength (550–759 kPa), low water absorption (<3%), and resistance to mold growth.

- Flame spread rating is between 40 and 60 per ASTM E84.

- Clip sizes range from 1.5 in to 11 in for solid clips and from 3–4 in up to 10–11 in for adjustable clips. Custom sizes are available upon request.

- Due to the complexity of cladding systems, structural review is mandatory for each project to ensure safe and effective use of the ACS Thermal Clip system.

- These clips are accessory components and are typically used in conjunction with insulation, air/vapor barriers, and cladding materials as part of a complete wall assembly.

This product does not have pot life, curing time, or temperature/humidity limitations as it is a mechanical component rather than a liquid-applied or chemical-based material.
