Material Use:

ALSAN RS 230 FLASH is a high-performance, two-component, liquid-applied waterproofing membrane based on polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA). It is specifically designed for use as a reinforced flashing membrane in roofing, balconies, plaza decks, fountains, and pond applications. When combined with ALSAN RS FLEECE, it forms a monolithic, self-adhering, and self-flashing membrane system suitable for new construction, tear-off, and recovery projects.

System Components:

The ALSAN RS 230 FLASH system includes the following components:

- ALSAN RS 230 FLASH (PMMA-based liquid membrane)

- ALSAN RS FLEECE (reinforcement fabric)

- ALSAN RS Catalyst Powder (used to initiate curing)

- ALSAN RS 222 PRIMER or ALSAN RS 276 PRIMER (depending on substrate type)

Applications:

This system is ideal for waterproofing and flashing in:

- Fountains and ponds

Application Details:

- Surface Preparation: Substrates must be clean, dry, and free of contaminants. A primer is typically required—use ALSAN RS 222 PRIMER or ALSAN RS 276 PRIMER depending on the substrate.

- Mixing: Mix the resin thoroughly for 2–3 minutes before use. Add ALSAN RS Catalyst Powder based on ambient temperature (2–6% by weight of resin). Stir for another 2–3 minutes after adding catalyst.

- Application Method: Apply using rollers, brushes, or notched squeegees. Embed ALSAN RS FLEECE into the wet base coat, then apply a top coat of ALSAN RS 230 FLASH.

- Coverage & Thickness: Coverage varies by substrate profile:

- Smooth (CSP 1): 3.9 m² (42 ft²) per 12 kg unit; total thickness 2.5 mm (98 mils)

- Typical (CSP 3-4): 3.7 m² (40 ft²); total thickness 2.7 mm (106 mils)

- Granulated (CSP 5): 3.2 m² (34 ft²); total thickness 3.1 mm (122 mils)

- Rough (CSP 6): 2.8 m² (30 ft²); total thickness 3.6 mm (140 mils)

- Base Coat Thickness: Ranges from 1.6 mm (63 mils) to 2.7 mm (105 mils)

- Top Coat Thickness: Ranges from 0.9 mm (35 mils) to 1.3 mm (51 mils)

Limitations and Environmental Conditions:

- Application Temperature:

- Winter Formulation: -5 °C to 20 °C (23 °F to 68 °F)

- Summer Formulation: 10 °C to 35 °C (50 °F to 95 °F)

- Pot Life: 10–15 minutes after mixing with catalyst

- Rain-Proof Time: 15–20 minutes

- Set Time / Walkable / Next Layer: 60–90 minutes (summer), 90–120 minutes (winter)

- Full Cure Time: 3–6 hours (summer), 5 hours (winter)

- Humidity Limitations: Not explicitly stated, but surfaces must be dry during application

- UV Resistance: ALSAN RS 230 FLASH is UV stable after cure

Special Notes:

- Store indoors at 13 °C to 27 °C (55 °F to 80 °F) in original containers. Shelf life is approximately 12 months.

- The product exhibits excellent flexibility, elongation, and crack-bridging capabilities, even at low temperatures (-36.1 °C / -33 °F).

- It is resistant to static puncture, water absorption, and has a low water vapor permeance, making it suitable for demanding waterproofing applications.

This system is ideal for detailing and flashing in complex waterproofing assemblies and can be integrated with other ALSAN RS PMMA-based systems for comprehensive waterproofing solutions.
