Material Use:
ALSAN RS 276 PRIMER is a two-component, polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA)-based, rapid-curing primer designed to enhance adhesion of ALSAN RS waterproofing and surfacing systems. It is specifically formulated for use in roofing, balconies, plaza decks, fountains, and pond applications where ALSAN RS systems are installed.
System Components:
ALSAN RS 276 PRIMER is used as part of the ALSAN RS System, which includes the primer, ALSAN RS base coats, fleece reinforcement (where applicable), and ALSAN RS top coats. The primer must be catalyzed with ALSAN RS CATALYST POWDER prior to application. The amount of catalyst used depends on ambient temperature, ranging from 2% to 6% of the resin weight.
Applications:
This primer is suitable for a variety of substrates including wood plank, timber, wood sheathing, cementitious surfaces, and small metal surfaces. It is used to prepare these substrates for the application of ALSAN RS waterproofing and surfacing systems, ensuring optimal adhesion and system performance.
Application Details:
Before application, the substrate must be properly prepared according to the ALSAN RS Priming Guidelines. The resin should be mixed thoroughly for 2–3 minutes using a slow-speed mechanical agitator. After adding the appropriate amount of ALSAN RS CATALYST POWDER, mix again for 2–3 minutes. Apply the primer using rollers, brushes, or notched squeegees, ensuring even distribution. The product has a pot life of 10–15 minutes once catalyzed, and becomes rainproof in approximately 15 minutes. It can be walked on or recoated after 30 minutes, and reaches full cure in about 2 hours at 20 °C (68 °F).
Special Notes:
- Temperature Limits: Application is suitable in ambient temperatures from 0 °C to 35 °C (32 °F to 95 °F), with substrate temperatures from 0 °C to 50 °C (32 °F to 122 °F), and resin temperatures from 3 °C to 30 °C (37 °F to 86 °F).
- Coverage Rates: Coverage varies by surface profile:
- Smooth surface (CSP 3): 25 m² (269 ft²) per 10 kg unit, at 0.4 kg/m² (0.037 kg/ft²), with a thickness of 0.38 mm (15 mils).
- Medium granulated surface (CSP 4): 20 m² (215 ft²) per 10 kg unit, at 0.5 kg/m² (0.046 kg/ft²).
- Rough surface (CSP 5): 12.5 m² (134 ft²) per 10 kg unit, at 0.8 kg/m² (0.075 kg/ft²).
- VOC Content: Very low VOC, <5 g/L, making it compliant with strict environmental regulations.
- UV Stability: As a primer, UV stability is not critical; however, it is intended to be overcoated with UV-resistant ALSAN RS top coats.
- Storage: Store indoors between 13 °C and 27 °C (55 °F to 80 °F), away from heat and direct sunlight. Shelf life is approximately 12 months in original sealed containers.
