Description
Colorless two-component resin composed of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) in which a colored paste ALSAN RS COLOR ADDITIVE is added.
Material Use:
ALSAN RS 287 COLOR FINISH BASE is a two-component, polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA)-based, clear liquid resin designed to be used as a pigmented finish coat in waterproofing and surfacing systems. It is primarily used in roofing and balcony applications where a durable, UV-resistant, and aesthetically pleasing finish is required. The product is mixed with ALSAN RS COLOR ADDITIVE to achieve the desired color and is catalyzed with ALSAN RS CATALYST POWDER prior to application.
System Components:
ALSAN RS 287 COLOR FINISH BASE is used in combination with the following components to form a complete system:
- ALSAN RS COLOR ADDITIVE: Added to the base resin to provide pigmentation. One 1.5 kg container of color additive is mixed with one 8.5 kg container of ALSAN RS 287 to create a 10 kg work pack.
- ALSAN RS CATALYST POWDER: Required to initiate the curing process. The amount of catalyst used depends on ambient temperature, ranging from 2% to 6% of the resin weight.
Applications:
This material is suitable for use as a finish coat in PMMA-based waterproofing systems for:

- Pedestrian traffic areas
- Exposed waterproofing systems requiring a UV-stable finish
Application Details:
- Mixing: Mix the entire container of ALSAN RS 287 COLOR FINISH BASE for 2–3 minutes using a slow-speed mechanical agitator. Add 1.5 kg of ALSAN RS COLOR ADDITIVE per 8.5 kg of base resin and mix thoroughly. Add the appropriate amount of ALSAN RS CATALYST POWDER based on ambient temperature (refer to Catalyst Mixing Chart) and mix for an additional 2–3 minutes.
- Application Method: Apply using a roller, brush, or flat blade squeegee to a clean and prepared substrate. Spread evenly to achieve the desired thickness.
- Coverage:
- On smooth substrates: 16.7 m² (179 ft²) per 10 kg work pack at 0.58 mm (23 mils)
- With Aggregate #0 (32 mesh silica sand): 14.3 m² (154 ft²) at 0.66 mm (26 mils)
- With Aggregate #1 (24 mesh silica sand): 12.5 m² (134 ft²) at 0.76 mm (30 mils)
Special Notes:
- Pot Life: 10–15 minutes after catalyst addition (varies with temperature)
- Rainproof Time: 30–45 minutes
- Set Time / Walkable / Next Layer: 45–60 minutes
- Full Cure Time: 3 hours
- Application Temperature Ranges:
- Ambient: 0 °C to 35 °C (32 °F to 95 °F)
- Substrate: 0 °C to 50 °C (32 °F to 122 °F)
- Resin: 3 °C to 30 °C (37 °F to 86 °F)
- UV Stability: UV Stable – suitable for exposed applications
- VOC Content: < 5 g/L (low VOC)
- Storage: Store indoors at 13 °C to 27 °C (55 °F to 80 °F), away from heat and direct sunlight. Shelf life is 12 months in original container.
- Thickness Limits: Recommended application thickness ranges from 0.58 mm to 0.76 mm (23–30 mils), depending on substrate and use of aggregate.
ALSAN RS 287 COLOR FINISH BASE is a high-performance, fast-curing, UV-stable finish coat ideal for use in PMMA-based waterproofing systems. It provides excellent abrasion resistance, high Shore A hardness (96), and is suitable for both new construction and renovation projects where a durable and decorative finish is required.
