Description

Blend of SBS modified bitumen, fast-evaporating solvents and adhesive enhancing additives to prepare concrete and metal surfaces before the installation of ANTIROCK and TRAFIKROCK membranes used to waterproof bridges and parking decks.

UNITS PER SKID: 36

VOLUME: 19L

Material Use:

ANTIROCK PRIMER is a solvent-based, SBS-modified bitumen primer designed to enhance adhesion between concrete or metal substrates and torch-applied ANTIROCK waterproofing membranes. It is primarily used in civil engineering applications, such as bridge decks, tunnels, and other infrastructure requiring robust waterproofing systems.

System Components:

ANTIROCK PRIMER is a preparatory component used in conjunction with ANTIROCK waterproofing membranes. It is not a standalone waterproofing solution but a critical part of the ANTIROCK system, ensuring optimal membrane adhesion to the substrate. The system typically includes:

- Primer: ANTIROCK PRIMER

- Waterproofing Membrane: Torch-applied ANTIROCK membrane (not included in this TDS but referenced as the compatible membrane)

Applications:

This primer is suitable for use on concrete and metal surfaces in civil engineering structures. It is applied prior to the installation of torch-applied bituminous waterproofing membranes to ensure proper bonding and long-term performance. Typical applications include:

- Bridge decks

- Parking structures

- Tunnels

- Retaining walls

- Foundations

Application Details:

- Surface Preparation: Substrates must be clean, dry, and free of contaminants. Concrete surfaces should be prepared to a CSP (Concrete Surface Profile) of 3, 4, or 5, as per ICRI guidelines. Steel shot blasting is recommended to achieve the required profile and cleanliness.

- Application Method: Apply using a brush or roller.

- Coverage Rate: 0.15 to 0.25 L/m² depending on surface porosity.

- Drying Time: Minimum 1 hour on smooth surfaces; drying time may vary based on temperature and humidity. Ensure complete solvent evaporation before membrane application.

- Cleaning: Tools can be cleaned with petroleum solvents such as mineral spirits, varsol, or xylene.

Special Notes:

- Flammability: ANTIROCK PRIMER is highly flammable. Keep away from open flames and ignition sources during application and drying. Ensure adequate ventilation, especially in enclosed spaces.

- Storage: Store in original sealed containers (19 L pails or 200 L drums) in a cool, ventilated area. Shelf life is up to 5 years.

- Environmental Conditions: Application should be avoided in high humidity or when rain is expected before the primer has dried. The product must be completely dry before membrane installation.

- Temperature Limits: Flash point is -3 °C (26 °F); therefore, application should be conducted in temperatures above this threshold to ensure safety and performance.

- UV Stability: Not UV stable; intended for use beneath waterproofing membranes and not as an exposed surface treatment.

- Compliance: Meets ASTM D41 standard for bituminous primers.

This primer is an essential component of the ANTIROCK waterproofing system and must be used in accordance with SOPREMA’s guidelines to ensure optimal performance and durability of the waterproofing membrane.
