Epoxy Binder for Decorative Aggregate Surfacing

Material Use:

This is a two-component, clear-straw colored epoxy binder designed for decorative aggregate surfacing. It is used primarily for residential, commercial, and institutional applications including patios, pool decks, walkways, stair risers, driveways, and prefabricated decorative building panels.

System Components:

·      Primer/Base Coat: CCS Binder applied as a neat prime coat (8–10 mils; 160–200 sq ft/gal).

·      Binder/Matrix: Mixed CCS Binder with aggregate at approx. 180 lb of 3/8" x 1/8" aggregate per gallon of binder.

·      Topcoat (Optional): UV-resistant acrylic or polyurethane emulsion sealer recommended to maintain gloss and clarity in exterior or UV-exposed areas.

Applications:

Suitable for interior and exterior decorative surfacing over concrete, masonry, stone, steel, and wood. Applications must be traffic bearing or decorative, depending on aggregate type and size used.

Application Details:

·      Mix Ratio: 2:1 by volume (Resin to Hardener).

·      Installation Temperature: Minimum 50°F.

·      Pot Life: 35 minutes (1 quart mix at standard conditions).

·      Initial Cure Time: 48 hours for light foot traffic.

·      Full Cure Time: 7 days for heavy foot or light vehicular traffic.

·      Application Thickness: Primer coat 8–10 mils wet; binder quantity based on aggregate size (150–220 lb aggregate per gallon of binder).

·      Coverage: Primer covers approx. 160–200 sq ft/gal.

·      UV Resistance: Not UV-stable; discoloration and whitening will occur in sunlight. Use UV-resistant topcoat for protection.

·      Substrate Conditions: Can be applied to dry or damp (no standing water) substrates.

Special Notes:

·      Surfaces must be properly prepared per ASTM C811, ACI 503R.

·      Aggregate must be clean, dry, and sound; uniform particle size recommended for best decorative effects.

·      Not resistant to prolonged exposure to hydrocarbon solvents.

·      Avoid using clear/white aggregate in UV-exposed settings due to visible discoloration.

·      Do not thin material or add solvents.

·      Store between 60–90°F in dry, shaded location; minimum shelf life of 3 years in original unopened containers.
