Description
CCS Concentrated Sulfuric Acid Resistance (CSA) is a high-performance, two-component, phenol novolac epoxy coating. It has a 2:1 mix ratio by volume, is 100% solids, solvent-free, and pigmented for field identification. The mixed product is available in tan-gray or tile red, with custom colors possible.
CSA is engineered for extreme chemical and mechanical environments requiring superior resistance to concentrated sulfuric acid and other harsh chemicals. It is suitable for use as a coating, primer, body coat, aggregate binder, receiving coat, grout coat, or top coat, offering comprehensive protection across concrete and steel surfaces.
CSA is a versatile “thru-system” epoxy and can be used across all stages of a coating system. A typical multi-layer system includes:
· Primer: CSA (160–200 sq. ft./gal)
· Body/Receiving Coat: CSA with or without broadcast aggregate
· Grout Coat: CSA (160–200 sq. ft./gal)
· Top Coat: CSA (160–200 sq. ft./gal)
Optional slip resistance can be introduced using #60 aluminum oxide as a sprinkle coat.
Ideal for industrial and aggressive service environments such as crude oil storage tanks, power plants, secondary containment, semiconductor processing, water and wastewater treatment plants, food and beverage facilities (non-contact areas), pulp and paper industry, petrochemical infrastructure, and mining facilities.
· Application Methods: Can be applied using brush, roller, V-notch trowel, squeegee, or two-component spray equipment.
· Surface Preparation: Concrete should meet ICRI CSP 2-4 profile, have a minimum pull-off strength of 250 psi. Steel should be prepped to SSPC-SP5/NACE No. 1 (white metal).
· Mixing: Use low-speed mixing with Jiffy blade for 2-3 minutes. Mix only quantities that can be applied within pot life.
· Pot Life (200g batch): 40 minutes at 73°F (23°C)
· Dry Time (Thin Film): Touch-dry in 6 hours, hard dry in 16 hours
· Recoat Time: 4–72 hours depending on ambient temperature (minimum 50°F/10°C)
· Thickness:
o Brush/Roller Coating: 8–10 wet mils per coat
o Full Broadcast System: 86–94 mils total
· Coverage: Approx. 160–200 sq. ft./gal per coat
· Aggregate Extension: 1 gal epoxy + 2 gal aggregate yields ~500 cu in. of pourable material
· CSA is UV resistant but not UV stable—outdoor exposure may result in chalking, which does not affect performance.
· Curing Time: Full cure at 7 days @ 73°F (23°C)
· Heat Deflection Temperature: 115°F (46°C); avoid applications where service temp exceeds 20°F below HDT under load.
· Shelf Life: 3 years in original, unopened containers stored between 50°F–90°F
· Do not thin the product; use only as supplied.
· Excellent chemical resistance, including full resistance to 98% sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid, many organic acids, hydrocarbons, and solvents (see chemical chart on page 4).
