Description
CCS Control Joint HB is a high-viscosity, semi-rigid, fast-curing two-component epoxy formulated specifically for use as a control joint filler, embedded wire slot filler, and traffic loop sealant. It is suitable for interior and exterior applications in concrete and asphalt, including airfield runways and tarmacs, and meets FAA P-606 requirements for sealing embedded wires and light fixtures. It also complies with ACI 302.1R for filling joints subjected to material handling vehicle traffic.
The product is a two-part epoxy with a 1:1 mix ratio by volume (100:86 by weight) consisting of Part A (blue gray or black) and Part B (clear amber), which results in a concrete gray or black mixture. It is commonly installed using the proprietary KEMKO Model C Slot Pump or an equivalent pump system. For aggregate extension, it may be blended with up to two gallons of round, kiln-dried sand per gallon of epoxy to increase volume and tailor flowability.
CCS Control Joint HB is used in sealing saw cuts and control joints, embedding wires and steel light cans in airfields, grouting for robotic induction and traffic stoplight loops, and bonding precast or extruded concrete curbs. It is also effective in sloped or uneven surfaces due to its controlled flow properties and can be installed with or without backer rods.
· Surface Preparation: Substrates must be dry or damp, clean, and free of bond-inhibiting substances. Concrete surfaces should have a minimum tensile strength of 250 psi (ASTM C1583) and be prepared to CSP 2–4 (ICRI 310.2R). Steel must be cleaned to white metal (SSPC-SP 5/NACE No. 1).
· Mixing & Installation: Use a low-speed (350–750 rpm) mixer with a Jiffy blade. Pot life is 15–20 minutes depending on volume. The material should be poured in one continuous application and may be slightly overfilled for flush finishing.
· Cure Times: Tack-free in 4 hours; hard dry in 6 hours (ASTM D1640).
· Temperature Limits: Install and cure above 50°F (10°C).
· Shelf Life: 3 years in unopened containers stored between 60–90°F (15.6–32.2°C), away from sunlight and freezing conditions.
· The product is non-UV-sensitive and does not embrittle in prolonged sunlight.
· Contains no VOCs and is environmentally inert.
· Not suitable for applications requiring resistance to hydrocarbon solvents.
· For saw cut slot yield estimation, one gallon can fill up to 1200 linear feet at 1/8" x 1/8" dimensions, decreasing proportionally with larger cuts (e.g., 300 ft at 1/2" x 1/8").
· When extended with aggregate, one gallon yields approximately 500 in³ of pourable material.
· Use of 100 mesh broadcast aggregate on fresh patches helps reduce tracking from foot traffic.
· Clean equipment before curing using acetone or a strong detergent.
· The product is rated Shore D 62 in hardness, with tensile strength of 1,500 psi and elongation at break of 60%.
