It serves as a partially bonded base layer in multi-ply waterproofing assemblies, particularly in low-slope roofing applications. The membrane is engineered to provide excellent adhesion, flexibility, and durability, making it suitable for use in both new construction and re-roofing projects.
System Components:
COLVENT BASE 840 is typically used as the base sheet in a multi-layer SBS-modified bitumen roofing system. It features a sanded top surface and a discontinuous self-adhesive underface, which is protected by a silicone release film. The membrane incorporates DUO SELVEDGE technology, which facilitates immediate sealing of side laps. For complete system performance, the base sheet is used in conjunction with SOPRALAP STICK for end lap reinforcement and ELASTOCOL STICK primer to ensure proper adhesion to various substrates. The system may be completed with a compatible SBS-modified bitumen cap sheet (not specified in this TDS but typically SOPREMA offers options such as SOPRALENE or ELASTOPHENE cap sheets).
Applications:
COLVENT BASE 840 is intended for use in roofing applications, particularly on low-slope roofs. It is suitable for installation over SOPRA-ISO PLUS insulation panels or SOPRA-ISO PLUS HD support panels, as well as other primed substrates. The membrane is ideal for commercial, industrial, and institutional roofing systems where a durable, partially bonded base layer is required.
Application Details:
- Installation Method: Self-adhesive application by removing the silicone release film and pressing the membrane into place with a membrane roller. The final 25 mm (1 in) of the DUO SELVEDGE side laps must be hot-air welded. End laps must be covered with SOPRALAP STICK, and the area must be pre-primed with ELASTOCOL STICK.
- Primers: ELASTOCOL STICK primer is required for all substrates other than SOPRA-ISO PLUS or SOPRA-ISO PLUS HD panels.
- Minimum Application Temperature: 0 °C (32 °F)
- Thickness: Minimum 2.5 mm (98 mils) before heat conditioning; 2.0 mm (80 mils) after heat conditioning.

Special Notes:
- Storage: Rolls must be stored upright with the selvedge side on top. If stored outdoors, they must be protected with an opaque cover after removing the delivery packaging.
- Environmental Conditions: The membrane must be applied in dry conditions and on clean, dry surfaces. Avoid installation in high humidity or wet conditions.
- UV Resistance: As a base sheet, COLVENT BASE 840 is not intended for UV exposure and must be covered with a compatible cap sheet.
- Compatibility: Must be used with SOPRALAP STICK and ELASTOCOL STICK primer for proper sealing and adhesion. Compatible with SOPREMA SBS-modified bitumen cap sheets for complete system assembly.
