Description

ConFlex™ Acrylic Coating delivers easy application and consistent performance. When primed with Loxon® Concrete & Masonry Primer/ Sealer, this system achieves a durable finish that resists challenging weather conditions like winddriven rain while inhibiting the growth of mildew on the coating surface.ConFlex is ideal for a range of applications including masonry, concrete, cement, tilt-up, poured-in-place, stucco, and cement composition siding and panels.

Material Use

ConFlex Acrylic Coating is a high-performance acrylic coating formulated for exterior, above-grade masonry surfaces. It offers excellent resistance to alkali and efflorescence when used with proper primers, and provides a durable, mildew-resistant, and weatherproof finish suitable for concrete, brick, stucco, cement board, and concrete blocks.

System Components

To achieve optimal performance, ConFlex Acrylic Coating is typically used as part of a coating system involving different primers and surface conditioners:

  • Primers/Conditioners:
    • Loxon Concrete & Masonry Primer: For concrete, cement board, and stucco.
    • Loxon Acrylic Conditioner: For EIFS and brick.
    • Loxon Acrylic Block Surfacer or ConFlex Block Filler: Required for porous CMU and split-face block to achieve a pinhole-free surface.
  • Base Coat: Typically consists of 1–2 coats of the selected primer or surfacer, depending on substrate and porosity.
  • Finish Coat: 2 coats of ConFlex Acrylic Coating.

Applications

This coating system is suitable for:

  • Concrete and cement composition panels
  • Concrete blocks (CMU), including split-face and smooth blocks
  • Brick and EIFS
  • Stucco and other masonry surfaces

Not for Use:

  • On horizontal surfaces where water collects (e.g., floors, roofs, decks)
  • Below-grade surfaces or where hydrostatic pressure is present

Application Details

  • Surface Preparation: All surfaces must be clean, dry, and sound. Glossy areas should be dulled, and cracks/voids should be patched with elastomeric patch or sealant. New stucco, concrete, and mortar must cure for 30 days or be primed after 7 days at 75°F.
  • Application Method: Airless spray (2000–2700 psi, 0.021" tip), brush (nylon/polyester), or roller (1/2"–1.5" nap). Backrolling is recommended on rough or porous surfaces.
  • Wet Film Thickness: 8 mils per coat
  • Dry Film Thickness: 3.5 mils per coat
  • Coverage:
    • Smooth surfaces: approx. 200 sq. ft./gal
    • Porous/rough stucco: approx. 80 sq. ft./gal
  • Drying Times at 77°F, 50% RH:
    • Touch Dry: 4 hours
    • Recoat: 24 hours (no max recoat time)
  • Pot Life / Shelf Life: 36 months unopened
  • Temperature Limitations:
    • Minimum application temperature: 50°F
    • Do not apply in direct sun or on hot surfaces

Special Notes

  • UV Stability: Not explicitly noted as UV stable or resistant. Designed for exterior use but may benefit from topcoats if UV exposure is critical.
  • Environmental Compliance: VOC compliant with multiple standards (OTC, SCAQMD, CARB, Canada, LEED v4 & v4.1).
  • Resistance Properties:
    • Wind-Driven Rain: Pass (ASTM D6904-03)
    • Water Vapor Permeance: 23.3 perms
    • Elongation: 316% (ASTM D2370)
    • Tensile Strength: 173 psi
    • Flexibility: Pass (180° bend over 1/8" mandrel)
    • Alkali Resistance: Pass
  • Cautions:
    • Contains crystalline silica and zinc—use with adequate ventilation.
    • Mildew resistant by design.
    • Protective gear is recommended when cleaning mildew or handling the material.
