Material Use:
ELASTOCOL STICK is a solvent-based primer formulated with SBS synthetic rubbers and adhesive-enhancing resins. It is specifically designed to improve the adhesion of self-adhesive waterproofing membranes to a variety of substrates. This primer is essential in waterproofing systems where optimal bonding between the substrate and membrane is required. It is also available in an aerosol format under the name ELASTOCOL STICK SPRAY for ease of application in smaller or more detailed areas.
System Components:
ELASTOCOL STICK is used as a primer component in self-adhesive waterproofing membrane systems. It is not a standalone waterproofing product but is a critical preparatory layer that ensures proper adhesion of the membrane to the substrate. It is compatible with SOPREMA self-adhesive membranes and should be used in conjunction with them as part of a complete waterproofing system.
Applications:
This primer is suitable for use on a wide range of substrates including wood, metal, concrete, and porous materials such as exterior gypsum boards. It is typically used in roofing and waterproofing applications where self-adhesive membranes are installed. ELASTOCOL STICK is ideal for both new construction and renovation projects where surface preparation is key to membrane performance.
Application Details:
Before application, the primer must be thoroughly mixed. It can be applied using a brush, roller, or spray equipment. The surface must be clean and dry prior to application. The primer should be allowed to dry until it is dry to the touch and does not transfer to the skin before the membrane is installed. Application should be performed at temperatures above -10 °C (14 °F). Drying time ranges from 15 to 60 minutes depending on ambient temperature and the amount applied. It is important not to accelerate drying using a torch or other heat source.
Special Notes:
- Coverage: Coverage varies depending on substrate porosity. On porous surfaces, 1 US gallon covers approximately 80 to 133 ft², and 5 US gallons cover 400 to 665 ft². On non-porous surfaces, 1 US gallon covers 160 to 400 ft², and 5 US gallons cover 800 to 2000 ft². The 350 g spray can covers approximately 4.3 ft² on porous and 9.6 ft² on non-porous surfaces.
- Environmental Conditions: Application must be done in well-ventilated areas. The product is flammable before curing and must be kept away from heat sources and open flames.
- Storage: Shelf life is up to 60 months when stored in original sealed containers in a cool, dry, and ventilated area.
- Cleaning: Tools and equipment can be cleaned with solvents such as mineral spirits, Varsol, or xylene before the primer cures.
- Limitations: Do not apply in damp or humid conditions. Ensure the surface is completely dry before application. Do not use heat to accelerate drying.
