Description
High-strength roofing base sheet membrane composed of a proprietary formulation of elastomeric SBS polymer modified bitumen and a composite reinforcement
UNITS PER SKID: 30
Material Use:
ELASTOPHENE FLAM HS is a high-strength SBS-modified bituminous roofing base sheet membrane designed for use in multi-layer roofing systems. It serves as a base ply in torch-applied roofing assemblies, providing enhanced flexibility, elongation, and durability. This membrane is ideal for new construction and re-roofing applications where superior mechanical performance and weather resistance are required.
System Components:
ELASTOPHENE FLAM HS is typically used as the base sheet in a multi-layer SBS-modified bitumen roofing system. It is designed to be heat-welded and used in conjunction with compatible SOPREMA cap sheets such as SOPRALENE FLAM or ELASTOPHENE FLAM cap sheets. The system may also include a primer (such as ELASTOCOL STICK or ELASTOCOL 500) applied to the substrate to enhance adhesion, especially on concrete or metal decks. A vapor barrier and insulation board may also be part of the complete roofing assembly, depending on the project requirements.
Applications:
This membrane is suitable for use in commercial, industrial, and institutional flat or low-slope roofing systems. It is designed for torch-applied installation and is ideal for use in both new construction and re-roofing projects. ELASTOPHENE FLAM HS is particularly effective in environments requiring high mechanical strength and resistance to thermal cycling.
Application Details:
ELASTOPHENE FLAM HS is installed using a propane torch to heat-weld the membrane to the substrate or underlying layer. The membrane is supplied in rolls measuring 10 m x 1 m (32.8 ft x 3.3 ft), with a nominal coverage of 9.1 m² (97.9 ft²) per roll, accounting for side and end laps. The membrane must be applied with the thermofusible plastic film facing down to ensure proper adhesion. Rolls should be stored upright with the selvedge side on top and protected from UV exposure prior to installation.
Special Notes:
- Thickness: The membrane has a nominal thickness of 2.8 mm (110 mils), with a minimum back surface coating thickness of 1.0 mm (40 mils).
- Temperature Range: The membrane maintains flexibility down to -26 °C (-14.8 °F) and has a compound stability up to 116 °C (240.8 °F), making it suitable for a wide range of climates.
- UV Resistance: As a base sheet, ELASTOPHENE FLAM HS is not UV-stable and must be covered with a UV-resistant cap sheet.
- Storage: Rolls must be stored upright and protected from direct sunlight and moisture. If stored outdoors, they must be covered with an opaque protective cover.
- Installation Conditions: Installation should be performed in dry weather conditions. The substrate must be clean, dry, and free of debris or contaminants. Avoid installation during rain or when ambient temperatures are below the membrane’s flexibility threshold.
- Reinforcement: The membrane is reinforced with a composite mat, providing excellent dimensional stability (<0.1%) and high tear strength (up to 4448 N / 1000 lbf in MD).
- Compatibility: ELASTOPHENE FLAM HS is compatible with other SOPREMA SBS-modified bitumen membranes and primers, forming a cohesive and durable roofing system.
This product is a key component in SOPREMA’s SBS-modified bitumen roofing systems and should always be used in accordance with the manufacturer’s guidelines and local building codes. For complete system design and installation recommendations, consult your SOPREMA representative.
