Description
High-strength cap sheet membrane composed of a proprietary formulation of elastomeric SBS polymer modified bitumen and a composite reinforcement.
UNITS PER SKID: 25
Material Use:
ELASTOPHENE FLAM HS FR GR is a high-performance SBS-modified bitumen roofing cap sheet membrane designed for use as the top layer in multi-ply roofing systems. It is specifically engineered for superior fire resistance, flexibility, and durability, making it ideal for commercial and industrial flat or low-slope roofing applications. The membrane is surfaced with ceramic-coated granules for UV protection and aesthetic finish, and it is installed using heat-welding techniques.
System Components:
This membrane is typically used as the cap sheet in a multi-layer SBS-modified bitumen roofing system. It is installed over a compatible base sheet such as SOPREMA’s ELASTOPHENE FLAM 180 or SOPRASTAR base membranes. The system may also include a primer such as SOPREMA ELASTOCOL STICK or ELASTOCOL 500 for improved adhesion to substrates. The underface of the membrane is coated with a thermofusible plastic film, allowing for heat-welded installation.
Applications:
ELASTOPHENE FLAM HS FR GR is suitable for new construction and reroofing projects on commercial, institutional, and industrial buildings. It is designed for use in SBS-modified bitumen roofing systems where enhanced fire resistance and long-term weathering performance are required. The membrane is ideal for flat or low-slope roofs and can be used in both ventilated and non-ventilated roof assemblies.
Application Details:
The membrane is installed by heat-welding with a propane torch. It features a 76 mm (3 in) selvedge edge to facilitate side lap welding. Each roll measures 10 m x 1 m (32.8 ft x 3.3 ft) and covers approximately 9.1 m² (97.9 ft²) when installed with proper side and end laps. The minimum membrane thickness is 3.5 mm (138 mils), with a back surface coating thickness of at least 1.0 mm (40 mils). The product must be stored upright and protected from UV exposure prior to installation.
Special Notes:
- Fire Resistance: Contains a flame-retardant agent and meets fire classification standards per ULC-S107. Refer to UL directory TGFU.R11436 for system-specific ratings.
- UV Resistance: The ceramic-coated granule surface provides UV protection, making the membrane UV stable after installation.
- Temperature Limits: The membrane maintains flexibility down to -26 °C (-14.8 °F) and has compound stability up to 121 °C (250 °F).
- Environmental Conditions: Installation should be performed in dry conditions. Avoid installation during rain or when ambient temperatures are below the membrane’s flexibility threshold.
- Thickness Limits: Minimum thickness is 3.5 mm (138 mils).
- Storage: Store rolls upright with the selvedge side on top. If stored outdoors, cover with an opaque protective cover.
- Coverage: Each roll covers approximately 97.9 ft² (9.1 m²) including side and end laps.
- Compatibility: Must be used with compatible SOPREMA base sheets and primers for optimal performance and warranty compliance.
This product is part of a complete SOPREMA SBS-modified bitumen roofing system and should be installed by trained professionals in accordance with SOPREMA guidelines.
