Description

Adhered base sheet membrane composed of SBS modified bitumen and a glass mat reinforcement.

UNITS PER SKID: 30

Material Use:

ELASTOPHENE PS is a high-performance SBS-modified bitumen base sheet membrane designed for use in multi-layer roofing and waterproofing systems. It is primarily used as a base ply in hot-applied roofing assemblies, offering excellent dimensional stability and durability under a wide range of environmental conditions.

System Components:

ELASTOPHENE PS is typically used as the base sheet in a multi-layer SBS-modified bitumen roofing system. It is installed in conjunction with a compatible cap sheet membrane (such as SOPRALENE or ELASTOPHENE cap sheets) to form a complete waterproofing system. The membrane is installed using hot bitumen (either SEBS or oxidized asphalt), which acts as the adhesive layer. The top surface of ELASTOPHENE PS is covered with a thermofusible plastic film, allowing for heat-welded application of the subsequent membrane layer, while the underside is sanded to enhance adhesion to the hot bitumen.

Applications:

This membrane is suitable for use in commercial, industrial, and institutional roofing systems where a durable, flexible, and weather-resistant base layer is required. It is ideal for both new construction and re-roofing projects and can be applied over various substrates, including concrete and wood decks, when used with appropriate primers and underlayment.

Application Details:

ELASTOPHENE PS is installed by unrolling it into a bed of hot bitumen applied with a mop. The membrane dimensions are 15 m x 1 m (49 ft x 3.3 ft), with a selvedge width of 75 mm (3 in) to facilitate overlapping and sealing. The minimum thickness of the membrane is 2.2 mm (87 mils) before heat conditioning and 2.0 mm (80 mils) after heat conditioning. The mass per unit area is 4.0 kg/m² (80 lb/100 ft²). The membrane exhibits excellent mechanical properties, including a peak load of up to 21 kN/m (120 lbf/in) and elongation at peak load of up to 4%. It maintains flexibility at low temperatures down to -18 °C (-0.4 °F) and has a compound stability of 107 °C (225 °F), ensuring performance in both cold and hot climates.

Special Notes:

- ELASTOPHENE PS must be stored upright with the selvedge side on top. If stored outdoors, rolls should be covered with an opaque protective cover after removing the delivery packaging.

- This membrane is not UV stable and must be covered with a compatible cap sheet or protective layer.

- It is not a standalone waterproofing solution and must be used as part of a multi-layer system.

- The product complies with CSA A123.23 Type A, Grade 3 standards.

- No specific pot life or curing time is applicable, as this is a pre-manufactured membrane applied with hot bitumen.

- Ensure ambient and substrate temperatures are suitable for hot bitumen application, typically above 5 °C (41 °F) and in dry conditions.

- Not suitable for direct exposure to UV or foot traffic without a protective cap sheet.

This product is best used in conjunction with SOPREMA’s SBS-modified cap sheets and hot bitumen adhesives to form a complete, high-performance roofing system.
