Description
GLACIROCK is a self-leveling blend of bitumen and polyurethane.
UNITS PER SKID: 36
Material Use:
GLACIROCK is a single-component, self-leveling pore filler and primer composed of a blend of bitumen and polyurethane. It is specifically designed for use on concrete surfaces in civil engineering applications, such as parking decks and bridges, prior to the installation of SOPREMA’s ANTIROCK and TRAFIKROCK heat-welded waterproofing membranes. Its primary function is to fill small surface irregularities and pores in concrete, thereby preventing blistering in the waterproofing membrane caused by air and water vapor pressure.
System Components:
GLACIROCK is used as part of a waterproofing system in conjunction with ANTIROCK and TRAFIKROCK membranes. It acts as the base primer and pore filler, preparing the concrete substrate for the subsequent application of the waterproofing membranes. These membranes are either mechanically installed or heat-welded, but must not be applied until GLACIROCK has fully cured.
Applications:
GLACIROCK is suitable for use in heavy-duty civil engineering applications, including:
- Parking decks
- Bridge decks
- Any concrete surface requiring pore filling and priming before membrane waterproofing
Application Details:
GLACIROCK can be applied using a spray system (655 nozzle) or a flat squeegee. The application must be done on substrates with temperatures ranging from 5 °C to 30 °C (41 °F to 86 °F). The product must be allowed to cure completely before membrane installation—typically 24 to 48 hours depending on ambient temperature and humidity. In enclosed or poorly ventilated areas, a minimum of 48 hours curing time is required with proper ventilation. The membranes (ANTIROCK or TRAFIKROCK) must be installed by heat-welding, but care must be taken not to expose GLACIROCK directly to the torch flame during manual installation. Accelerating the drying process with heat is strictly prohibited.
Special Notes:
- Coverage: One 19 L (5-gallon) pail covers approximately 225 to 290 ft² (21 to 27 m²), depending on surface porosity and application method.
- Curing Time: 24 to 48 hours, depending on environmental conditions. Ensure complete solvent evaporation before proceeding.
- Pot Life: Not applicable as it is a single-component product.
- UV Resistance: Not specified; intended for use beneath waterproofing membranes and not exposed to UV.
- Storage: Highly flammable. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and ignition sources. Shelf life is 12 months in a tightly sealed original container.
- Cleaning: Tools and equipment can be cleaned using petroleum-based solvents such as mineral spirits, varsol, or xylene.
- Adhesion Performance: Demonstrates strong adhesion to concrete with ANTIROCK membrane, with peel resistance of 1800 N/m and adhesion strength > 0.4 MPa (ASTM D4541).
GLACIROCK is a critical component in SOPREMA’s waterproofing systems, ensuring optimal adhesion and performance of the final membrane layer by stabilizing the concrete substrate and preventing vapor-related failures.
