Description
HiBAR is a semi-cementitious spray applied blend of high temperature mineral fibers and proprietary binders.
UNITS PER SKID: 30
Material Use:
HiBAR is a semi-cementitious, spray-applied material composed of high-temperature mineral fibres and proprietary binders. It is engineered for improving thermal resistance, fire resistance, and acoustic performance in various building assemblies. It does not contain asbestos or free crystalline silica and is applied as a textured, off-white coating that conforms naturally to substrate contours.
System Components:
HiBAR can be used as part of a thermal and acoustic system for structural steel and prefabricated metal building assemblies. It may include:
- Mechanical and electrical suspension hooks pre-installed before spraying.
- Adhesives when applying over painted surfaces or exceeding 38 mm (1.5 in) in thickness.
- Optional tamping or surface finishing tools depending on visual or functional needs.
Applications:
HiBAR is recommended for:
- Fire-retardant insulation for steel joists, beams, floors, ceilings, and walls.
- Thermal insulation for prefabricated buildings and steel deck roofs.
- Acoustic treatment for noisy areas such as large rooms needing sound absorption.
- Condensation control on exposed components in contact with cold surfaces.
Application Details:
- Method: Sprayed via pneumatic hose with water misting through an airless nozzle and pump system.
- Thickness Limits:
- Maximum: 75 mm (3 in) on rigid ceilings without mechanical support.
- Adhesive required for thickness >38 mm (1.5 in).
- Temperature & Environmental Requirements:
- Substrate temperature must be ≥4 °C (39 °F) during and for 24 hours post-application.
- Not suitable for humid interior areas without adequate ventilation.
- Preparation:
- Clean surfaces of oil, dirt, and loose coatings.
- Slightly premoisten surface before spraying.
- Mask areas not to be coated.
- Curing: No explicit pot life or curing time mentioned, but maintaining conditions for 24 hours is critical.
Special Notes:
- Adhesion: Perform an adhesion test if applying to painted or wood substrates. High-gloss finishes particularly require adhesive.
- Fire & Acoustic Properties:
- Flame Spread: 0 (CAN/ULC-S102, ASTM E84)
- Thermal Resistance: RSI 0.66/25 mm
- Acoustic Absorption (ASTM C423): CRB 0.91
- Density: 169 kg/m³ at 32 mm thickness
- Combustibility: Incombustible (CAN/4-S114)
- Air Erosion: <155 mg/m²
- Bond Strength: ≥4.788 kPa (ASTM E736)
- UV Stability: Not specified; likely not UV-resistant due to typical application in concealed or interior areas.
- Reflectivity: Approx. 80% (visible light)
Packaging and Storage:
Supplied in 18.1 kg (40 lb) bags. Must be stored indoors in original, non-perforated packaging to protect from moisture.
