Description
Intended for interior/exterior use in industrial environments, Industrial Enamel HS is easy to apply by brush, roll or spray. Recommended industrial environment uses include properly prepared steel, concrete, wood, plaster, and primed aluminum and galvanized steel.
Material Use:
Industrial Enamel HS is a high-solids, alkyd-based gloss topcoat designed for both interior and exterior applications in industrial environments. It is suitable for use on a variety of properly prepared substrates including steel, concrete, wood, plaster, previously painted surfaces, galvanized metal, and aluminum. This product is ideal for use in new construction, maintenance, and repainting projects where a durable, high-gloss finish is desired.
System Components:
Industrial Enamel HS is typically used as a two-coat topcoat system over a compatible primer. The complete system includes:
- Primer (substrate-specific, see below)
- 2 coats of Industrial Enamel HS
Compatible Primers by Substrate:
- Steel (Alkyd Primer): 1 coat Kem Bond HS Primer or Kem Kromik Universal Metal Primer
- Steel (Acrylic Primer): 1 coat Pro Industrial Pro-Cryl Primer
- Aluminum & Galvanized Metal: 1 coat DTM Wash Primer or Galvite HS
- Concrete Block: 1 coat Pro Industrial Heavy Duty Block Filler
- Drywall (Interior): 1 coat ProMar 200 Zero VOC Primer
- Plaster & Poured Concrete (Interior): 1 coat Loxon Concrete and Masonry Primer
- Wood (Exterior): 1 coat Exterior Oil-Based Wood Primer
- Wood (Interior): 1 coat Premium Wall & Wood Primer
- Wood Floors: No primer required, apply 2 coats of Industrial Enamel HS directly

Application Details:
- Application Methods: Brush, roller, or spray (airless spray recommended at 1800 psi with a 0.017–0.019" tip)
- Film Thickness:
- Wet: 3.5–7.0 mils
- Dry: 2.0–4.1 mils
- Coverage: 230–473 sq. ft. per gallon per coat (theoretical coverage at 1 mil dry = 946 sq. ft./gal)
- Mixing: Minimum 5 minutes on a mechanical shaker for tinted bases
- Reducer: Xylene or R2K4, up to 3% by volume if needed (not in restricted areas)
- Stripe Coating: Recommended for welds, crevices, and sharp angles
- Surface Preparation: Varies by substrate; all surfaces must be clean, dry, and properly prepared per SSPC standards
Environmental & Application Conditions:
- Temperature Range: 40°F to 120°F (air, surface, and material); must be at least 5°F above dew point
- Relative Humidity: Maximum 85%
- Drying Times at 4.0 mils wet, 50% RH:
- Touch: 2–6 hours (depending on temperature)
- Handle: 6–14 hours
- Recoat: 12–24 hours
- Full Cure: 4–14 days
- Pot Life: Not applicable (single-component product)
- Shelf Life: 36 months unopened
- VOC Content: 320 g/L (2.67 lbs/gal)
- Flash Point: 103°F PMCC
Special Notes:
- This product is not UV stable and may exhibit burnishing, especially in deep-tinted colors.
- Not compliant with SCAQMD, CARB, or LEED v4 VOC requirements.
- Suitable for USDA-inspected facilities.
- Do not use interior-only colorants for exterior applications.
- Clean tools and equipment with compliant solvent immediately after use.
- Rags and waste soaked with this product may spontaneously combust; dispose of properly in a sealed, water-filled metal container.
